About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer (ME) will play a crucial role in a fast-paced team environment, collaborating cross-functionally across various departments including Quality, Program Management, Logistics, Production Control, Industrial Engineering, and Manufacturing. This position is primarily responsible for executing change through process improvement methodologies, assisting in the implementation of the organization's Lean strategy, and executing project initiatives. The ME will also be tasked with training and mentoring key resources within the organization. In this role, the ME will develop, evaluate, improve, and implement manufacturing methods by leveraging knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards. The ME will effectively utilize Lean, Six Sigma, and other Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies to support activities such as Value Stream Mapping in alignment with the Lean Operations Roadmap. Additionally, the ME will assist and support the current 5S program and lead, participate in, and support Kaizen Events and A3 problem-solving activities. The ME will interface with quality assurance, industrial engineering, and production teams to integrate new products or processes into existing production areas. This includes developing shop floor photo documentation and standard work instructions. The ME will create an environment conducive to the development of new concepts and methods that support continuous improvement within the department. Furthermore, the ME will ensure product and process quality by designing testing methods, establishing standards, and confirming manufacturing processes. The role also involves providing manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs, reviewing production schedules, and estimating future requirements in conjunction with Industrial Engineering. The ME will develop and maintain requirements for new tools and fixtures orders for final assembly and specialty tools to support production flow. The ME will also assist in troubleshooting technical problems within the production department and will be responsible for training and developing production assembly employees, including creating individualized training plans and facilitating training courses.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, and other CI methodologies to support Value Stream Maps according to the Lean Operations Roadmap.
  • Assist and support the current 5S program.
  • Lead, participate in, and support Kaizen Events and A3 problem-solving activities.
  • Interface with quality, industrial engineering, and production to integrate new products or processes into existing production areas.
  • Develop shop floor photo documentation and standard work instructions.
  • Create an atmosphere for the development of new concepts and methods to support continuous improvement.
  • Confer with industrial engineering, program manager, and design staff concerning product design and tooling for efficient production methods.
  • Assure product and process quality by designing testing methods and establishing standards.
  • Provide manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs.
  • Develop and maintain requirements for new tools and fixtures orders for final assembly.
  • Assist in developing manufacturing processes by studying product requirements and conferring with vendors.
  • Act as a First Responder for the production department to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.
  • Review and support the effectiveness of training activities for all production assembly employees.
  • Assist in developing and directing training and development programs for employees.
  • Create pro-active and responsive training solutions to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Operations, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering required.
  • 5 or more years of work-related experience, preferably in aircraft or a combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced root cause analysis capability using 3D clash analysis and advanced metrology equipment.
  • Ability to create and review engineering drawings, models, and assemblies for manufacturability.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, concepts, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Aerospace materials such as metals and plastics.
  • Knowledge of Aerospace requirements such as ISO9001 and AS9100.
  • Experience in GD&T and various forms of rapid prototyping including 3D printing.
  • Experience in creating and implementing process control related to production fixtures.
  • Ability to independently plan and prioritize tasks.
  • Effective communication skills before groups of customers or employees.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
