About the position

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II to join our team at the Jacksonville Blount Island facility. This role is pivotal in developing, documenting, and enhancing manufacturing processes to ensure the highest quality of production. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will represent the Manufacturing Engineering Team throughout the entire production build phase, collaborating closely with the Integrated Product Team (IPT). Your responsibilities will include driving the resolution of all build-related issues, providing guidance on design concepts and specifications, and updating work instructions to maintain optimal product performance. You will also adapt machine and equipment designs to meet factory standards, utilizing Continuous Improvement (CI) methodologies to enhance production methods and eliminate waste. In this position, you will work closely with various departments, including Operations, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), and Quality, to foster a safe and efficient work environment. You will assume leadership responsibilities for all build-related issues within your assigned program, ensuring timely and effective closure of manufacturing-related issues. Your role will also involve driving product quality improvements through process development and manufacturing enhancements, as well as communicating and presenting findings to senior leadership. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Drive resolution of all build-related issues.
  • Provide guidance on design concepts and specification requirements to optimize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Update work instructions to ensure proper sequence of operations for product fabrication.
  • Adapt machine and equipment designs to meet factory and production standards using Continuous Improvement (CI) efforts.
  • Improve production methods and eliminate waste from existing programs.
  • Assist in developing time and cost estimates as needed.
  • Collaborate with Operations, EH&S, Quality, and other departments to create a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Assume leadership responsibility for all build-related issues within assigned programs.
  • Track manufacturing-related issues and ensure timely closure by responsible parties.
  • Drive product quality improvements through process development and manufacturing enhancements.
  • Communicate and present findings to senior leadership.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or an Advanced Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent experience in Engineering/Other Technical Positions.
  • U.S. citizenship required for access to information under this program/contract.
  • Experience with 2D and/or 3D modeling software.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with writing Standard Work Instructions.
  • Experience with Solidworks.
  • Experience with SAP or similar software (e.g., Oracle).
  • Prior experience with composite materials (rubber, fiberglass, urethane, carbon fiber).
  • Experience with manufacturing layup fabrication and assembly.
  • Experience in designing, laying out, and troubleshooting manufacturing cells.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement (CI) tools and methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, ACE, or CORE.
