About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer II at Saint-Gobain plays a crucial role in managing technical activities that encompass engineering, product development, tech transfer, application engineering, and providing support to customers and various departments. This position is designed for innovative problem solvers who are eager to reshape the world through their contributions. The role is highly collaborative, focusing on supporting assigned Focus Factories, departments, and the Project Management central team. The primary focus will be on C-FLEX twin and single screw extrusion, compounding, and molding processes. Daily responsibilities include providing production support, troubleshooting production issues related to C-FLEX twin and single screw extrusion, and compounding and molding processes to alleviate manufacturing process losses. The engineer will be responsible for outsourcing the repair and maintenance of tooling, ensuring that tools are serviceable at all times, and controlling contractors. Additionally, the role involves supporting projects and change orders initiated by colleagues, conducting Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPA) to determine root causes and remediation of repetitive defects or issues, assessing and authorizing process deviations, and advising on root causes of non-conforming materials. In terms of project management, the Manufacturing Engineer II will initiate and manage change order requests that encompass elements of environment, health and safety, purchasing, quality, and engineering. They will plan, develop, and execute projects aimed at reducing waste through improved manufacturing and process efficiency, utilizing World Class Manufacturing (WCM) methodologies. The engineer will also initiate formal requests for capital equipment with substantiated justifications, implement new processes and equipment through IQ/OQ/PQ validations, and update validations as necessary due to process changes. Other responsibilities include troubleshooting, drafting and editing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and training team members on WCM principles, key performance indicator (KPI) management, and performance control system (PCS) management. The engineer will lead and coach multifunctional Kaizen teams, conduct audits of pillar and Kaizen activities, and provide training as needed.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Experience with plastics, specifically knowledge of extrusion, injection molding, and compounding processes.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
