We put a strong emphasis on design capability and hands-on technical ability, as our manufacturing engineers are directly involved with design, analysis, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and active engagement with engineering. Throughout the manufacturing process, you will also identify, develop, and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence and schedules. Responsibilities

  • Design for manufacturing and assembly, manufacturing plan development, work order authoring, and developing innovative processes and procedures for various spaceflight systems.
  • Support design and translate engineering documentation and configurations into fully functional hardware ready for test, qualification, and flight.
  • Assist with the daily execution of scheduled and unscheduled manufacturing engineering tasks to ensure operational performance expectations are met.
  • Ensure compliance with Blue Origin's documented policies and procedures, as well as industry specifications.
  • Author various manufacturing engineering documentation including work orders, policies, procedures, and manuals.
  • Interface and communicate with various stakeholders across other departments and business units to ensure mission objective success.
  • Promote a culture of safety and quality first.
  • Work with multi-functional teams responsible for selecting materials, manufacturing processes, and suppliers to produce aerospace hardware.
  • Apply robust, consistent, and reliable engineering fundamentals and processes to ensure the highest quality of manufacturing engineering.
  • Review and understand companywide processes and command media to ensure proper compliance.
  • Drive research and development hardware into a repeatable production product.
  • Identify, develop, and deploy new manufacturing methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build schedule.
  • Closely manage quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the fabrication process.
  • Perform engineering drawing review and drive manufacturability into designs.
  • Develop process control measures and evaluation through statistical analysis.
  • Define and support repair and rework activities.
  • Design, procure, install, and integrate custom manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions.
  • Ensure proper material handling and packaging to protect hardware throughout the fabrication and test process.
  • Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process.
  • Ensure consistent application and proper communication with production operations of requirements to support fabrication needs.
  • Work independently toward long-range objectives without appreciable direction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 7+ years of manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Experience with launch vehicle, spacecraft, satellite, and/or aircraft manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment supporting constantly evolving design iterations.
  • Experience with mentoring early career engineers with technical skill development.
  • Prior experience with significant technical responsibility and proven technical depth.
  • Experience leading product through various product lifecycle stages including concept, development, and production.
  • Proficiency with Computer-Aided Design (CAD).
  • Proficiency with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to interpret engineering models, drawings, specifications, and test procedures.
  • Ability to generate work instructions at all stages within the product lifecycle.
  • Strong background with mechanical systems and hands-on fabrication experience.
  • Demonstrated ability in component fabrication, precision assembly, and testing using a variety of methods, techniques, and materials.
  • Extreme customer-focus with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office suite of software (Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint).
  • Ability to support scheduled work shift and work off-shift, extended hours, and weekends if vital.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in engineering.
  • Experience with laser welding and/or GTAW welding in an aerospace environment.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.
  • Experience using schedule management tools (P6 Primavera and/or Microsoft Project).
  • Experience using cost management tools to analyze/manage project budget health and variances.
