About the position

Crane Aerospace & Electronics is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer III to join our team in Lynnwood, WA. This role is pivotal in enhancing our manufacturing systems and improving product manufacturability and cost-effectiveness. The Manufacturing Engineer III will engage in complex and varied tasks, including mentoring junior engineers, leading interdisciplinary teams, and analyzing methods and processes to support production. The position requires a deep understanding of modern production principles and the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization. In this role, you will be responsible for investigating and implementing cost reduction strategies and product improvement programs. You will also identify root causes of manufacturing problems and recommend corrective actions. Participation in customer specification reviews and evaluations of new product designs will be essential, as will the review of design change requests initiated by manufacturing personnel. You will evaluate and select facilities, equipment, and materials required for production, perform cost analyses, and develop manufacturing operating instructions. Additionally, you will track manufacturing metrics to monitor process health, evaluate non-conformances, and direct production operators in problem-solving activities. Training assemblers and operators in machine operations and coordinating with vendors and customers will also be part of your responsibilities. The role requires the ability to prioritize work with limited input from management and to develop business cases for capital equipment and process improvements. You will be expected to perform any other tasks assigned by your supervisor or management.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor the team and junior Manufacturing Engineers, providing training and coaching.
  • Lead interdisciplinary teams on assigned projects.
  • Study, analyze, and design methods, procedures, processes, layouts, flow, fixtures, and tooling to support production.
  • Investigate, recommend, and implement manufacturing cost reduction and product improvement programs.
  • Identify root causes and corrective actions for manufacturing problems.
  • Participate in customer specification and statement of work reviews.
  • Review and evaluate new product designs or design changes.
  • Analyze design change requests initiated by manufacturing personnel for feasibility and validity.
  • Evaluate, test, and select facilities, equipment, and materials required for production in conjunction with production supervision and purchasing.
  • Perform cost analyses for quotations or 'make or buy' decisions.
  • Develop manufacturing operating instructions.
  • Track manufacturing metrics to monitor process health.
  • Evaluate non-conformances as part of the Material Review Board.
  • Direct work activities of production operators to aid in problem-solving.
  • Develop procedures and train assemblers and operators in machine operations and processes.
  • Coordinate with vendors and customers.
  • Identify and prioritize work with limited input from management.
  • Develop ROI or business cases and present to management for capital equipment and process improvements.
  • Perform any other tasks assigned by your supervisor or management.

Requirements

  • 5+ years' experience as a Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Practical application of modern production principles and methods in a high technology design and manufacturing operation.
  • Knowledge of material characteristics and processing, chemicals, and basic concepts of electrical systems, mechanical systems, fluids, and heat transfer.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, or a related field.
