The role demands a strong understanding of aviation manufacturing processes, standards, and safety considerations. Attention to detail is paramount, particularly in relation to production schedules and part lead times from both internal and external suppliers. The Manufacturing Engineer III will be expected to take the initiative in scheduling and leading meetings to improve communication across multiple build locations, thereby fostering collaboration and efficiency. In this position, the engineer will work independently to prepare, conduct, and evaluate analyses aimed at planning improvements and solving manufacturing issues. This includes examining production methods and procedures, optimizing layout, production flow, tooling, and production equipment, as well as material fabrication and assembly methods. The engineer will also be responsible for authoring detailed work instructions that enhance manufacturing process efficiency and minimize defects, collaborating closely with functional Operations Engineers. The Manufacturing Engineer III will conduct technical studies, prepare reports with recommendations for equipment and manufacturing methods, and generate make-or-buy proposals. They will also be involved in vendor evaluations, negotiations, and problem resolution. The role requires a commitment to continuous improvement, incorporating Lean Manufacturing methodologies into existing processes, and supporting safety, sustainability, and ergonomic initiatives. Overall, this position is integral to maintaining Gulfstream's reputation for quality and innovation in the aerospace industry, requiring a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and a commitment to excellence in manufacturing practices.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and track production impact while planning for engineering changes.
  • Identify opportunities for coordinating cost-saving initiatives across programs.
  • Perform technical studies of complex nature and conduct analysis of operations.
  • Prepare reports of recommendations for equipment and correct methods of manufacturing.
  • Author detailed work instructions to optimize manufacturing process efficiency.
  • Generate make-or-buy proposals and recommend corrective actions for areas of responsibility.
  • Conduct research and analysis to ensure conformance to requirements.
  • Investigate and assist in preparing justification for equipment and facility requests.
  • Perform productibility studies from engineering drawings.
  • Prioritize workloads based on schedules and needs; provide completion dates and work estimates.
  • Incorporate Lean Manufacturing Methodology into existing and future processes.
  • Develop business cases and present to management for process improvement approval.
  • Supervise and train subordinates in work methods and procedures.
  • Lead/coordinate the implementation of projects between multiple organizations.
  • Support all Safety, Sustainability, and Ergonomic Initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or related curriculum required.
  • 4 years of manufacturing engineering, planning, or related technical experience.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of Lean and/or Six Sigma principles and processes.
  • Knowledge of Engineering configuration requirements, tooling, quality control, plant safety, blueprint reading, and shop math.
  • Ability to operate computerized equipment, such as personal computers, CADAM, CATIA, Solumina, SAP, Corridor.
  • Complete understanding and experience implementing Lean Manufacturing Concepts: 5S, JIT, SMED, KanBan, VSM, One Piece Flow.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of Six-Sigma or other data-driven decision making experience highly desirable.
  • Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt or equivalent certification.
