About the position

Textron Aviation has been a leader in the aviation industry for nine decades, known for its iconic Cessna and Beechcraft brands. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a crucial role in analyzing product designs of parts and assemblies to assess their manufacturability. This position involves providing technical guidance to resolve manufacturing-related challenges and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in manufacturing support areas. You will be responsible for conducting methods and systems studies, researching and justifying manufacturing techniques, and processes aimed at reducing costs while maintaining production schedules and improving product quality. In this role, you will collaborate closely with engineering teams to provide input on production tooling and build-plan methodologies. You will analyze engineering designs to determine the manufacturability of components and assemblies, and you will be tasked with determining the appropriate manufacturing processes and tooling methodologies. Additionally, you will author and maintain process plans and work instructions for the shop floor, ensuring that all operations are efficient and effective. Your responsibilities will also include developing learning curves and hour projections for new programs, analyzing actual performance, and making recommendations for process improvements. You will create Manufacturing Bills of Material (MBOM) to facilitate the manufacturing process and provide technical guidance to initiate Root Cause/Corrective Action (RCCA) on production issues. Furthermore, you will analyze engineering drawings and manufacturing operation sequences to issue engineering change requests (ECR) aimed at improving production operations. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will work with cross-functional teams to address production flow issues and identify new technologies and manufacturing techniques that enhance safety, reduce costs, and improve product quality. You will gather and analyze production process data to prioritize continuous improvement opportunities, utilizing Lean and Continuous Improvement methodologies to lead and track these initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Engineering on desired production tooling and build-plan methodology and gives input/feedback on associated design criteria; analyzes engineering design to determine manufacturability of components and assemblies
  • Determines manufacturing processes, tooling methodology, discrete manufacturing operations and associated time standards to be used to produce new parts/assemblies from detail component fabrication thru job-level installation; authors and maintains process plans for shop floor methods/work instructions
  • Develops learning curve and actual hour projections for new program production incorporation; analyzes actual performance and makes necessary process improvement recommendations
  • Creates Manufacturing Bill of Material (MBOM) to break engineering product structure into logical manufacturing methodology and sequence to enable MRP processes for order release, scheduling, and purchased component sourcing activities
  • Provides technical guidance to initiate and drive Root Cause / Corrective Action (RCCA) on production issues related to engineering design, material, tooling, specifications, and processes
  • Analyzes/Interprets engineering drawing, manufacturing operation sequence, tooling function, and process specifications and issues engineering change requests (ECR) to improve or eliminate manufacturing issues in sustaining production operations
  • Analyzes and makes recommendations regarding production facility arrangements for improvements to production capacity, manufacturing flow, new model incorporation, and strategic work transitions; maintains current production area layouts and equipment locations per defined process standards
  • Works with cross-functional personnel to analyze and solve production flow issues stemming from sequence of work, balance of tasks, tooling/equipment constraints, and manpower allocation/training
  • Identifies, justifies, and implements new technology and manufacturing techniques to improve safety/ergonomics, reduce manufacturing cost (labor, material, inventory, scrap), and improve product/process quality
  • Gathers, analyzes, and summarizes production process data for their use in valuing and prioritizing process continuous improvement opportunities; utilizes Lean/CI methodologies to lead, implement, and track improvements and to conduct check and adjust activities to verify sustainment

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or another related field
  • Experience in machining discipline and machine shop standards processes is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Collaborates and easily gets along in team-based environments
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Computer Proficiency (MS Office, CAD, etc.)

Benefits

  • Competitive and extensive total rewards package including pay and innovative benefits to support you and your family members
  • Eligibility for a $5,000 state of Kansas Aviation tax credit for up to five years
