About the position

The Intern position at Smith+Nephew is designed for top-performing undergraduate students in fields such as Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering. This role aims to provide significant work experience in the medical device industry while allowing interns to contribute to projects that propel the company forward. Interns will work closely with managers, lead improvement projects, and present their findings to senior leadership, all while participating in team-building events and social activities.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with managers to complete specifically identified projects.
• Present project conclusions to senior leadership.
• Lead an improvement project.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled at an accredited university as an undergraduate majoring in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a similar field.
• Academically considered a sophomore with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with effective project management experience preferred.
• Strong communication skills including technical writing, listening, and speaking; ability to influence others.
• High learning agility with the ability to analyze and synthesize data and present it to senior leaders.
• Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and drive project completion.
• Independent thinking and the ability to work within a team.
• Ability to assess technical issues and develop solutions utilizing an analytical approach to problem solving.
• Time management and organization skills to manage tight deadlines and multiple tasks.

Nice-to-haves

• Previously applicable intern, part-time, or apprenticeship experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with effective project management experience preferred.
