About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer Manager at Pittsburg State University is responsible for leading research projects focused on the fabrication, processing, and testing of polymers and plastics. This role involves writing reports and proposals for external funding, teaching relevant courses, and supervising students and junior researchers. The position combines research and development with business and technical management to advance eco-friendly polymer technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research: design and execute experiments related to polymers and plastics.
  • Data acquisition, analysis, and writing reports.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and develop standard operating procedures.
  • Teach one or two classes per semester as needed.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate students and junior researchers.
  • Prepare internal and external reports and presentations of technical results.
  • Assist in writing manuscripts and reports for presentations and publications.
  • Plan, obtain, and manage new projects from external funding sources.
  • Develop advanced polymers/plastics using eco-friendly methods.
  • Coordinate with external constituents for technology development and commercialization.
  • Report technical results through written and oral communications.
  • Communicate research findings to scientific communities and industrial partners.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Plastic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 2 years of experience with plastics processing, characterization, analyses, and writing reports.
  • 2 years of experience in applied polymer science.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1 year of experience in operating fabrication and analytical/testing instruments.
  • 1 year of experience in teaching BS and MS-level classes.
  • 1 year of experience working on a research team related to electroactive and semiconducting materials.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience.
