Tesla's Gigafactory New York is currently seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to help support both new and existing equipment and production line design/automation. This role will own critical design projects for a variety of our high-volume manual or automated manufacturing lines. The responsibilities will include part and assembly mechanical design, electrical and controls equipment specifications, supporting continuous improvement activities, independently diagnosing equipment issues, and working with cross-functional teams to maximize equipment performance and minimize costs. In this position, you will lead mechanical design efforts, which involve 3D part and assembly design, finite element analysis (FEA), and creating 2D drawings with dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) using Solidworks. You will also engage in rapid prototyping by collaborating with cross-functional engineers and teams, internal and external machine shops, and third-party vendors to build, test, optimize, and validate new parts, systems, and full line equipment. Additionally, you will work closely with safety and ergonomic teams to review equipment and process requirements, compile equipment risk assessments, and select and integrate safety devices into both new and existing manufacturing stations and lines. Your role will also require electrical and controls experience, where familiarity with NACL electrical safety standards, communication and network protocols, and electrical hardware design will be beneficial. Strong project management skills are essential as you will collaborate with various cross-functional teams onsite to meet project stakeholder requirements. You will create new line make cases or existing line upgrade proposals by analyzing and creating equipment timing charts to optimize cycle times and balance automation based on calculated payback periods. Moreover, you will be responsible for conducting product and manufacturing process failure mode analysis (PFMEA) and design failure mode analysis (DFMEA). Managing external and internal vendors will also be part of your duties, where you will create RFQs in collaboration with the procurement team to develop cost-effective solutions delivered on time. You will own root cause analysis by investigating, identifying, and solving equipment and process concerns, ensuring production uptime for both new and existing equipment or methods. Finally, you will lead factory acceptance testing (FAT) with vendors at offsite locations and follow up with site acceptance testing (SAT) on equipment delivered and installed onsite.
