About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer for the Paper Area at Gia-Pacific in Monticello, MS, is responsible for providing technical support to the paper department, focusing on achieving operational objectives related to safety, environmental compliance, reliability, production, quality, and cost. This role is integral to the paper team, which consists of over 160 employees, and reports directly to the Paper Area Manufacturing Leader.

Responsibilities

• Influence a culture of safety and environmental excellence through critical hazard identification, risk reduction, and risk mitigation.
• Assist Department Leadership by investigating challenging issues and use the necessary resources to find solutions.
• Be intellectually curious and champion finding solutions to operating issues that affect productivity.
• Understand, communicate, and align goals related to quality, production, safety, and reliability.
• Lead process and equipment modifications that result in improved product quality, reduced variation, higher customer satisfaction, and creating value.
• Act as an entrepreneur and identify potential for improvement and take ownership of finding and presenting solutions.

Requirements

• Papermaking experience
• 4-year degree in Engineering or equivalent field related experience
• Experience troubleshooting, commissioning, and/or improving manufacturing equipment and processes
• Experience managing projects
• Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

• Five (5) or more years of experience in multiple areas in the paper industry.
• Experience managing in a labor union environment.
• Organization optimization experience.
