Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! We are looking for Manufacturing Engineers to join us on building the road to space. In this role, you will be responsible for providing manufacturing definition in support of Blue Origin's New Glenn derivatives initiatives. This role will follow the product from early concept development, through design reviews, and into production. Tasks will include creating build & flow documents, identifying required production tools, creating manufacturing BOMs, authoring work instructions, determining build schedules, and introducing first articles builds to the production floor. You will work in a cross-functional team role with tooling engineering, facilities engineering, and project management functions. Responsibilities will include creating build & flow artifacts including items like build plan, duration estimates, index plan, condition of assembly, and PFMEAs. You will perform trades with vehicle level and subsystem design teams to better enable fabrication and integration of composite parts. Additionally, you will lead development efforts to optimize the current build plan to reduce critical path durations and follow the build onto the floor, acting as the technical point of contact during build execution. You will also be responsible for standing up the work center that the vehicle will be produced in by identifying and procuring required tools, providing facility requirements for space or utilities, and organizing the overall work area.

Responsibilities

  • Creating build & flow artifacts including items like build plan, duration estimates, index plan, condition of assembly, and PFMEAs
  • Performing trades with vehicle level and subsystem design teams to better enable fabrication and integration of composite parts
  • Leading development efforts to optimize the current build plan to reduce critical path durations
  • Following the build onto the floor and being the technical point of contact during build execution
  • Standing up the work center that the vehicle will be produced in by identifying and procuring required tools, providing facility requirements for space or utilities, and organizing the overall work area

Requirements

  • Prior experience working on aircraft or spacecraft composites fabrication, structural assembly, fluids integration, avionics integration, or similar experience; total of five years of working experience
  • Experience driving a product from concept development into production
  • Experience with a variety of hardware manufacturing practices including drilling, shimming, fastening, composites fabrication, fluids integration, avionics integration, instrumentation, precision cleaning, non-destructive testing, leak testing, orbital tube welding, and machining
  • Proven ability building trusting and effective working relationships that improve team performance and deliver results
  • Strong experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software (Creo or CATIA V5)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong digital literacy (MS Office, MS Project, MS Visio, and Agile Management tools such as Jira, Confluence or AirTable)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • BS of Engineering from an accredited college or university. ABET is preferred and others will be considered

Nice-to-haves

  • Hands on experience with building flight hardware
  • Experience with launch vehicle, spacecraft, or satellite development, production, or operations
  • Experience in prioritizing hardware procurement and fabrication and communicating these priorities to the team
