About the position

The Wax and Shell Room Engineer at Brunswick will oversee the steel investment casting process, focusing on the wax pattern and ceramic shelling production lines. This role involves collaborating with internal experts to enhance operations, manage projects aimed at quality improvement, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The engineer will also act as a liaison between design engineering and manufacturing, contributing to process improvements and new product development.

Responsibilities

  • Process ownership of steel investment casting process for wax pattern and ceramic shelling.
  • Develop new and refine existing wax, shell and pouring processes to reduce scrap, rework, and product cost.
  • Assist in controlling quality and productivity while maintaining good housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Independently manage a portfolio of projects to identify and resolve part quality issues.
  • Investigate, propose, and manage large capital and cost reduction projects.
  • Prepare and document work instructions to maintain ISO compliance.
  • Work closely with team members to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Attend safety meetings and participate in plant safety programs as required.
  • Act as a liaison between design engineering and manufacturing personnel.
  • Collaborate with operations to understand practices and deploy process improvements.
  • Work with vendors supplying production materials and improve tools and inspection processes.
  • Understand basic robotic moves and collaborate with controls technicians for improvements.
  • Develop new products when applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Strong mechanical and hands-on aptitude.
  • Passion for developing and executing best-in-class investment casting processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to independently manage and prioritize projects.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and engaged learner.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with different job functions and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to read and understand part and tooling prints and modify prints using CAD.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous process engineering experience in investment casting foundry.
  • Knowledge and understanding of GD&T.
  • Ability to lead DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) projects.
  • Exposure to Microsoft products including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Programming experience with robots.
