About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer for Project Kuiper will play a crucial role in the development and testing of hardware, processes, and line layouts for satellite assembly builds. This position involves close collaboration with engineering teams to specify and procure tools and equipment necessary for Kuiper hardware builds, ultimately contributing to the mission of increasing global broadband access through a constellation of satellites.

Responsibilities

  • Write work instructions, troubleshoot non-conformances, and execute critical satellite assembly build and test campaigns, including hands-on work.
  • Define and implement Work Orders and standard operating procedures.
  • Design and run experiments/test articles to support process development for various subsystems.
  • Assist with developing manufacturing processes for automated quality SPC.
  • Plan line layouts for Assembly, Integration & Test to intended throughput capacities in collaboration with engineering and technician teams.
  • Specify, design, and help procure various assembly equipment, tools, and systems to meet program development requirements.
  • Interface with facilities personnel on site development and utility requirements definition.
  • Plan AIT takt time & cost optimization.
  • Review designs for manufacturability and sign off for design release.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of working in manufacturing engineering or equivalent experience
  • 1+ year experience with integrating, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical and electronic systems
  • 1+ year experience with Computer Aided Design tools such as Solidworks or NX/Unigraphics

Nice-to-haves

  • Related experience from internships or college organizations
  • Technical writing experience, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, and/or test plans
  • Experience with various automated manufacturing processes, including assembly and test methods at component level, subsystem, and system level
  • Experience with handling and tracking systems for continuous material flow to manufacturing lines
  • Familiarity with QTP/ATP, functional testing, and/or environmental testing such as thermal, acoustic, or vibe
  • Experience supporting both Development and Production programs
  • Formal training/certification in Operational Excellence Systems (Lean, 5S, Six Sigma, etc.)
  • Strong organizational, analytical, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
