About the position

Gia-Pacific's Consumer Products Division is seeking qualified professionals for the Paper Manufacturing Engineer opportunity at the Wauna Mill located in Clatskanie, Oregon. This position is crucial in supporting the operation of Through Air Dried towel paper machines. The primary responsibility of the role is to enhance the effectiveness of the asset group by improving reliability, work processes, equipment performance, and team member capabilities. The selected candidate will report directly to the Production Leader, playing a key role in the operational success of the manufacturing process. In this role, you will drive a culture of safety and environmental excellence by identifying critical hazards, reducing risks, and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies. You will manage and execute Gia-Pacific's reliability and asset strategies, leading continuous efforts to identify, investigate, recommend, and implement equipment improvements, new systems, and process changes aimed at enhancing productivity, yield, quality, and reducing costs. Your efforts will be focused on driving improvements to operating metrics across all equipment within the work system. Collaboration with the operations team is essential to build systems that improve productivity, quality, and reliability. You will exemplify and advance Principle Based Management, ensuring that the team adheres to the highest standards of operational excellence and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Drive a culture of safety and environmental excellence through critical hazard identification, risk reduction, and risk mitigation.
  • Manage and execute Gia-Pacific's reliability and asset strategies.
  • Lead continuous efforts to identify, investigate, recommend, and implement equipment improvements, new systems, and process changes to improve productivity, yield, quality, and reduce costs.
  • Drive improvement to operating metrics in all equipment of the work system.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to build systems to improve productivity, quality, and reliability.
  • Exemplify and advance Principle Based Management.

Requirements

  • 3 or more years of experience working in a manufacturing, industrial or military environment.
  • 2 years or more experience leading continuous improvement initiatives and/or reliability strategies.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering with 3 or more years of manufacturing experience.
  • 5 or more years of manufacturing experience within a paper or pulp manufacturing operation.
  • Experience as a supervisor with responsibility for direct reports.
  • Experience working with a CMMS system (ex: SAP, Maximo, etc).
