About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer Technician will play a crucial role within the Regional Manufacturing Engineering Team, focusing on executing engineering projects, supporting operations, and enhancing manufacturing processes. This position requires a multi-disciplinary skillset and the ability to work independently while collaborating with others to achieve measurable results. The Technician will embody the company's values and contribute to safety, quality, and productivity improvements in manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities

  • Own personal and team safety, observing all safety rules and using proper safety equipment.
  • Develop, audit, and edit process documentation based on current manufacturing practices, data analysis, film analysis, and time study.
  • Design parts, devices, fixtures, and structures to improve safety, quality, and productivity for new and existing processes.
  • Build parts, devices, fixtures, and structures using machinery, hand tools, and welding equipment.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis and Problem-Solving events to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Assist Regional Manufacturing Engineering with New Product Development (NPD) pilot observations.
  • Support Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams with problem-solving and apply short and long-term solutions as needed.
  • Support project plans for Safety, Quality, and/or Production with a focus on cost savings related to Material, Labor, and Overhead.
  • Participate in Lean Events such as SMED, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen, including process time studies and data analysis.
  • Work in small teams to execute improvement projects driven by the Regional Manufacturing Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, and/or Plant Leadership team.
  • Share best practices with other BAC facilities to improve and standardize safety, quality, and production culture within BAC.
  • Train mechanics on lessons learned and process improvements.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience as a technician or mechanic preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems preferred.
  • Ability to read, follow, and execute plans through CAD drawings or OEM instructions.
  • Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor, Vault, and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, for creating and manipulating spreadsheets and presentations.
  • Demonstrated computer competency, including accessing BAC systems such as Sharepoint, Onedrive, PPD, and Peoplesoft.
  • Ability to develop, audit, and edit process documentation based on current manufacturing practices and data analysis.
  • Ability to design parts and fixtures for new and existing processes.
  • Strong competency with Root Cause Analysis and Problem-Solving techniques such as 5Y, Fish Bone, and A3.
  • Familiarity with the Five Lean Principles, 5S, and the Seven Wastes.
  • Knowledge/experience with Robotics, Automation Systems, and/or PLCs preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience with weld procedures including WPS/PQR/WPQ preferred.
  • Effective written communication skills for documenting processes and communicating with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills for professional interactions with customers and co-workers.
  • Ability to identify cost-out opportunities and implement appropriate methods.
  • Quality orientation and high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to safety standards.
  • Ability to use handheld measuring tools such as tape measure, square, protractor, calipers, and micrometer.
  • Knowledge/experience operating manufacturing fabrication equipment such as drill press, milling machine, lathe, grinder, band saw, plasma cutter, and welder.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CAD software beyond Autodesk products.
