About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for applying engineering principles and analytical techniques to enhance manufacturing processes and product quality. This role involves problem-solving related to tooling and equipment, analyzing workforce utilization, and designing efficient layouts for manufacturing operations. The engineer will also assist in budgeting, evaluate new products for manufacturing feasibility, and train personnel in safety and equipment operations.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and solve problems related to tooling, equipment, and processes.
  • Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow.
  • Design layouts of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement changes to improve manufacturing processes and product quality.
  • Assist the Process Line Manager in developing capital and expense budgets.
  • Evaluate new products and make recommendations regarding manufacturing feasibility.
  • Train department personnel in safety, setup, operations, and troubleshooting of existing and new equipment.
  • Estimate production rates, setup, and tooling costs for inquiries and new part setups.
  • Specialize in skill sets such as PLC programming, welding, automation, or vision systems.
  • Provide support as requested by the supervisor.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving skills on the shop floor.
  • Exhibit a sense of urgency and results-oriented approach.
  • Display leadership characteristics.
  • Apply extensive knowledge and practical applications of Lean techniques.
  • Comply with safety policies, legal and operational requirements, and ISO standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year accredited college or university in a related engineering field.
  • 5 or more years of related experience.
  • Experience with manufacturing engineering, manufacturing processes, and mold tooling.
  • Knowledge of process troubleshooting and hands-on involvement with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in high-speed manufacturing environments.
  • Technical skills in resolving scrap issues and process adjustments.
  • Understanding of working with complicated rubber molds and hydraulic press experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with compression or injection molding, preferably in silicone.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CQI12 Coating and CQI30 Rubber Molding.
  • Experience in the automotive industry.
  • Ability to estimate production rates, setup, and tooling costs.
  • Knowledge of mold release spray and hydraulic press inputs.
