About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer at Viking Range LLC is responsible for evaluating and improving the manufacturing system by analyzing current processes, systems, and product designs to eliminate waste. This role involves auditing labor utilization, preparing work standards, and implementing new equipment on the production floor. The engineer will also contribute to the release and manufacture of new products, facilitate team member success, and champion lean principles to foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Improve labor utilization by auditing current standards and recommending improvements.
  • Prepare work standards and operating guidelines by writing or updating policies, procedures, and work methods.
  • Spend time on the plant floor documenting current conditions and analyzing the system for improvements.
  • Assist or project manage the implementation of new equipment on the production floor.
  • Contribute to the release and manufacture of new products by participating in prototype and pilot builds.
  • Enable shop floor team members' success and facilitate daily improvements.
  • Identify areas for improvement through data analysis and direct observation on the shop floor.
  • Lead and participate in improvement projects, ensuring a methodical process is followed.
  • Champion lean principles and educate the team on continuous improvement.
  • Continue learning new production methods through various means.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
  • 2-5 years of on-the-floor manufacturing experience leading process improvement projects.
  • Problem-solving experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using BI tools to manage data and identify opportunities (preferred).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing situations and tasks.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
  • Servant leader mentality with a focus on helping others learn and improve.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; CAD skills preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience in metal fabrication process improvement, specifically laser/punch, forming, and welding/finishing (preferred).
  • Experience in metal fabrication equipment advances including capital submittals and ROI justification (preferred).
  • Experience in assembly process improvement including work instruction development and operator training (preferred).
