About the position

As a Manufacturing Engineer at Formlabs, you will play a pivotal role in driving the technical readiness of manufacturing processes for our groundbreaking 3D printers. You will be a critical member of New Product Introduction (NPI) teams, collaborating closely with Research and Development (R&D) teams to ensure successful outcomes from the early prototype phases through to project completion. Your responsibilities will include driving Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives to support product, system, and process design, ensuring that our manufacturing processes are optimized for efficiency and quality. In this role, you will establish industrialization and production readiness while working collaboratively with Formlabs teams, Contract Manufacturers, and Suppliers on a global scale. You will ensure that critical product specifications are met through well-defined processes and corresponding process control points. Your ability to collaborate cross-functionally will be essential as you tackle complex engineering and operational challenges, driving process control and issue prevention. You will implement tools, equipment, and process methods to ensure reliability and quality in our manufacturing operations. Additionally, you will leverage factory data to analyze process capabilities at Suppliers and Contract Manufacturers, driving optimization and continuous improvement initiatives. Your strategic thinking and tactical execution will be crucial in troubleshooting processes, ramping up manufacturing, and launching new products effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Drive manufacturing technical readiness as a critical member of NPI teams.
  • Collaborate directly with R&D teams to drive results from early prototype phases through project completion.
  • Drive DFM and DFA in support of product, system, and process design.
  • Establish industrialization and production readiness while collaborating globally with Formlabs teams, Contract Manufacturers, and Suppliers.
  • Ensure critical product specifications are addressed through critical processes and corresponding process control points.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on complex engineering and operational challenges.
  • Drive process control and issue prevention; implementing tools, equipment, and process methods to ensure reliability and quality.
  • Drive optimization and continuous improvement using factory data to analyze process capabilities at Suppliers and Contract Manufacturers.

Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally & domestically approximately 10-20%.
  • Experience in Design and Manufacturing Engineering roles for complex NPI product industrialization.
  • Experience with global contract manufacturers in bringing electromechanical systems from prototype to mass production.
  • Independent, self-starter with a strong ability to think strategically and execute tactically with persistent attention to detail.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills; presenting at all business levels.
  • B.S. Degree in Engineering; mechanical, manufacturing, mechatronics, systems, or related field.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data visualization and statistical analysis tools (SQL, Tableau, JMP, Minitab, etc).
  • Utilization of program/project management communication tools such as JIRA and Asana.
  • Desire to deeply understand system level interactions of complex electro-mechanical products.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (GD&T) to define and evaluate product quality.
