About the position

Ducommun's Appleton Performance Center is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, workflow, throughput, space utilization, and product quality. This role is crucial in ensuring that manufacturing processes are efficient and effective, leveraging knowledge of product design, materials, parts, fabrication processes, tooling, and production equipment. The Manufacturing Engineer will work closely with the Customer Value Stream team to ensure on-time delivery of products, which is essential for maintaining customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. In this position, the Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing and procuring tooling and jigs necessary for production. Participation in Manufacturing Readiness Reviews is also a key responsibility, ensuring that all aspects of manufacturing are prepared for successful product launches. The role includes providing routine technical support to the Operations team, which is vital for troubleshooting and resolving any issues that may arise during the manufacturing process. Additionally, the Manufacturing Engineer will support defect reduction efforts using Statistical Process Controls and engage in continuous improvement activities aimed at enhancing manufacturing operations. Applying Lean Manufacturing techniques to develop process routing is a critical aspect of this role, as it helps streamline operations and reduce waste. The engineer will also be tasked with determining the root cause and corrective action of non-conforming products during Material Review Board (MRB) meetings, ensuring that quality standards are upheld. While direct supervisory responsibilities are not included in this role, a successful Manufacturing Engineer will possess strong leadership skills, the ability to self-direct, and work effectively both independently and interdependently. The ability to influence others is essential for driving improvements and fostering a collaborative work environment. Acceptable attendance is also an essential function of the position, as it contributes to the overall productivity and success of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, workflow, throughput, and product quality.
  • Work with the Customer Value Stream team to ensure on-time delivery of product.
  • Develop and procure tooling and jigs necessary for production.
  • Participate in Manufacturing Readiness Reviews.
  • Provide routine technical support to the Operations team.
  • Support defect reduction efforts using Statistical Process Controls.
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities to enhance manufacturing operations.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing techniques to develop process routing.
  • Determine root cause and corrective action of non-conforming products in MRB meetings.
  • Complete all Corrective Action Records (CAR's) assigned in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Fluent in Microsoft Office software applications.
  • Experience with Baan ERP and Catia design package is beneficial.
  • Strong leadership skills preferred; ability to influence others is essential.
  • Ability to self-direct and work effectively both independently and interdependently.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical data, blueprints, specifications, etc.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to inquiries from colleagues, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to write reports for internal/external distribution that conform to prescribed style.
