About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer at MasterBrand is a pivotal role focused on enhancing process improvements and engineering activities within the Kinston facility. This position is integral to the company's commitment to quality and efficiency, involving the development and implementation of Standard Operating Sheets, Production Work Instructions, Poka-yokes, and various layout changes. The Manufacturing Engineer will collaborate closely with safety, maintenance, plant production supervision, and corporate engineering support departments to ensure that projects are executed effectively and align with the company's operational goals. The role emphasizes the importance of machine uptime, equipment reliability, product quality, and labor utilization. The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for analyzing equipment downtime, prioritizing potential failures, and implementing countermeasures to prevent future issues. This includes performing advanced troubleshooting during equipment breakdowns and assisting operators and maintenance teams with machine design and programming challenges. The position also requires a strong focus on lean manufacturing principles, utilizing tools to support production and problem-solving initiatives. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Manufacturing Engineer will be expected to manage multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Effective communication is crucial, as the role involves presenting findings and recommendations to management and collaborating with various teams to achieve production goals.

Responsibilities

  • Support manufacturing on layout changes and equipment moves for existing or new equipment introductions through the capital process.
  • Review past history of equipment downtime and analyze the likelihood of repeated failures.
  • Prioritize the likely failures.
  • Analyze the failures using the 5 why's method.
  • Investigate and create/design the best possible countermeasures and/or early warning indicators to prevent failures.
  • Implement countermeasures and monitor results.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting equipment during breakdowns (downtime).
  • Assist operators and maintenance in machine design, programming, and function issues.
  • Assist in confirming machine repeatability.
  • Analyze spare parts & tooling needed for the equipment.
  • Assist managers in resolving non-downtime (nuisance) issues.
  • Analyze, develop, and recommend design approaches necessary to meet production requirements for new or improved products and/or processes.
  • Determine from part drawings and related engineering data the operation necessary for the fabrication and assembly of product.
  • Develop production equipment needs and justifications for new equipment and processes.
  • Use lean tools to troubleshoot and support production.
  • Support problem solving & 6S events.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned at management's discretion.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Wood Technology or equivalent is required.
  • 3-5 years of related experience in an engineering support department with emphasis on lean practices is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with tight timelines in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
  • Strong communication skills - listening, verbal, written and presentation.
  • Must be able to use AutoCAD and/or Inventor fluently.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • CNC programming experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Effective working knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Prior experience developing justifications for new equipment.
