About the position

Snap-on is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Elkmont, Alabama. This role is pivotal in creating manufacturing equipment and processes for Hand Tool Manufacturing. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to building a world-class manufacturing facility in the North Alabama area. Your technical knowledge and expertise will be essential in ensuring that design specifications and procurement of manufacturing equipment, tooling, and fixtures meet company requirements and objectives. In this position, you will work closely with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle. This includes collaborating with Engineering Technicians, Tool and Die Makers, Quality, and Production teams to take design changes and new tool designs from initial concept through prototype development and into full production. You will be responsible for the design of manufacturing processes, specification development for manufacturing equipment, and management of external equipment suppliers from development through buyoff. Additionally, you will validate and characterize new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor, partner with maintenance for root cause analysis of down equipment, and develop changes to mitigate repetitive downtime. Your role will also involve the development of new manufacturing processes, creation of detailed Manufacturing Instructions, and training of technicians and line operators on these processes. You will design production workstations for ergonomics and efficiency, perform process analysis and capacity modeling, and deploy statistical control for key processes. Responsibilities

  • Apply technical knowledge and expertise in the development and implementation of new and improved manufacturing processes, procedures, and equipment.
  • Ensure that design specifications and procurement of manufacturing equipment, tooling, and fixtures meet company requirements and objectives.
  • Work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with small teams on in-house development of novel and complex manufacturing equipment.
  • Develop specifications for manufacturing equipment.
  • Manage external equipment suppliers from equipment development through buyoff.
  • Validate and characterize new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor.
  • Partner with maintenance in root cause analysis of down equipment and develop changes to mitigate repetitive downtime.
  • Partner with internal resources for in-house machinery upgrades and rebuilds.
  • Understand usage and implementation of robots (Fanuc preferred) and identify areas for automation to increase productivity.
  • Develop new manufacturing processes and create detailed Manufacturing Instructions to define new processes and document new equipment operation.
  • Train technicians and line operators on manufacturing processes.
  • Design production workstations for ergonomics and efficiency.
  • Perform process analysis and capacity modeling.
  • Deploy statistical control for key processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in an Engineering Discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing engineer working in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2-4 years of experience in CNC machining, CNC programming, and cutting tool selection.
  • Proficiency in designing mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling in CAD (Catia preferred, SolidWorks is also a plus).
  • Good understanding of LEAN principles and continuous improvement.
  • Proven experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in CNC metal machining processes using CNC vertical machining centers and CNC lathes.
  • Ability to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well organized with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Mastery of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project.
