About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer at Nammo Defense Systems, Inc. is responsible for maintaining, developing, and operating manufacturing systems to ensure production efficiency and quality. The role involves problem-solving within budgetary constraints, improving manufacturing processes, and supporting the design and qualification of tooling and equipment. The engineer will work with composite materials and must ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations while fostering collaboration with operations and quality teams.

Responsibilities

  • Drive process problems to a solution within schedule and budgetary requirements.
  • Develop a general understanding of fiber reinforced polymer matrix materials and the processes used to make composite structures.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Determine takt time, map process flows, and design work cells.
  • Write, update, and review shop floor planning.
  • Troubleshoot production/tooling/facility issues and implement process improvements.
  • Support design, checkout, and qualification of new or modified tooling or equipment.
  • Understand non-metallic and metallic tooling used for composite structures.
  • Familiarity with Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Ensure safe working practices in accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Drive design problems to a solution within schedule and budgetary requirements.
  • Create and/or query component and assembly level CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks and/or Catia.
  • Create and/or interpret engineering drawings per ASME 14.5 - Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Design structures, fixtures, tooling, and mechanisms for advanced composite structures.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering drawings including process flow diagrams.

Requirements

  • 3 to 10 years minimum of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • B.S. in Chemical, Civil, Material, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Basic Excel and Word skills; experience with macros, lookups, queries, and formulas is a plus.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and other equipment controls is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with industry standards AS9102 and NADCAP.
  • Good organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in providing project technical leadership and fulfilling responsibilities associated with Integrated Product Teams (IPT).
  • Ability to take the initiative, maintain confidentiality, and meet deadlines.
