About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes for custom steel fabrication. This role works closely with production, quality control, and design engineers to ensure cost-effective, high-quality, and timely manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for cutting, bending, welding, and assembling custom steel plate products.
  • Design production workflows, fixtures, and tooling to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Analyze production data to identify areas for process improvement and cost reduction.
  • Collaborate with design engineers and sales teams to ensure product manufacturability and alignment with client needs.
  • Provide technical assistance to sales, purchasing, and material control teams during quoting and planning phases.
  • Review customer specifications and manufacturing code requirements (ASME, B31.3, API, NACE) for compliance and feasibility.
  • Ensure all technical specifications, procedures, and code requirements are current and properly applied in manufacturing processes.
  • Review and approve manufacturing documentation, including order entry sheets and routing plans.
  • Develop blank sizes and cutting patterns for various product shapes to optimize material use.
  • Review material requirements and ensure correct sourcing and traceability.
  • Specify necessary heat treatments and post-weld processes based on applicable standards.
  • Create and/or assign welding procedures (WPS/PQRs) in accordance with code and job requirements.
  • Define and coordinate required mechanical testing (tensile, impact, hardness) and non-destructive examination (UT, RT, MT, PT).
  • Train production personnel on new processes, safety protocols, and best practices.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to improve material availability, tooling, and production capabilities.
  • Utilize CAD and CAM software to design tooling and generate CNC machine programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations and company objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in steel fabrication.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes including ASME, B31.3, API, and NACE.
  • Demonstrated experience with welding procedures, material specifications, and quality/testing requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple projects effectively.
