The Manufacturing Engineer defines and implements the manufacturing and test processes required for consistent and repeatable manufacturing of PCBA and HLA (Higher level Assembly) / Systems products. As the Technical Lead on the CFT (Customer Focused Team), the M.E. must have a broad range of knowledge and technical expertise sufficient to gain the trust of Sanmina Customers. The ideal candidate must possess the ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a demanding environment, and demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. In concert with the quality organization, ensures that customer requirements and designs are translated into manufacturing processes that result in “best in class” product realization and sustained customer support throughout a product's lifecycle. Candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to adapt quickly to changes and prioritize and execute multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the Technical Leader of the CFT. Works very closely with Quality, Test, and Process Engineering.
  • Leads New Product Introduction Engineering activities and works with organizational resources to ensure NPI success.
  • Develops quotes for new products including NREs.
  • Loads routings and assembly and test standards into Oracle ERP system.
  • Configures BOMs and routings in accordance with the product structure.
  • Configures products in 42Q MES and owns product identification and traceability results.
  • Orders product specific PCBA tooling in alignment with defined tooling specifications developed by Process Engineering.
  • Develops HLA cell layouts to optimize throughput and align with demand TAKT rates, minimize WIP, support visual management and 5S, and incorporate Sanmina standards.
  • Procures tooling and fixtures for assembly of HLA products.
  • Provides DFA/DFM feedback to customers and post build reports.
  • Develops, maintains, and controls assembly build instructions for PCBA and HLA products.
  • Trains operators and Group leaders on assembly instructions, special processes, and special customer requirements.
  • Creates CapEx justifications for new capital equipment unique to specific customer requirements. Develops and executes IQ / OQ/ PQ validation protocols for new equipment.
  • Monitors product quality metrics and enhances through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Implements continuous improvement programs and strives for excellence.
  • Works with Process Engineering to ensure the use of tools such as SPC and DOE are applied to products through utilized processes.
  • Leads Lean Six Sigma DMAIC projects to improve results for assigned customers and products.
  • Troubleshoots complex manufacturing performance problems and provides technical guidance to less experienced team members.
  • Conducts independent research into complex engineering problems, to develop new operating policies and capabilities.
  • Analyzes customer ECOs and communicates requirements to the applicable Process, Test, and Quality Engineering teams.
  • Coordinates and oversees effective implementation of change requirements with technical engineering and PLM teams.
  • Determines customer and internal traceability requirements and champions effective product identification and traceability within MES.
  • Conducts time studies and monitors product quality metrics.
  • Investigates test and inspection yield issues as part of continuous improvement activities.
  • Develops product packaging requirements and packaging instructions.
  • Trains operators on special packaging requirements.
  • Determines customer and internal labeling requirements for products, intermediate boxes, and logistics boxes.
  • Works with Labeling Process Owner to implement mistake proof labeling processes.
  • Conducts capacity studies and works to improve throughput rates.
  • Works with quality on supplier issues impacting product quality results.
  • Works with Process and Test Engineering on improvements when process and test results are affecting product quality and reliability.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering with minimum 5 years experience supporting PCBA Electronics Manufacturing and system integration or equivalent.
  • Detailed knowledge of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 workmanship is required.
  • Understanding of operating methodologies in an electronics assembly environment is required.
  • Experience with product labeling.
  • Experience in the field of complex Assembly with a practical understanding of Quality Standards and methodologies such as 5S, TQM and Lean Manufacturing would be an asset.
  • Experience with DFM and FMEA.
  • Familiarity with Medical Device manufacturing environment is desired.
  • Familiar with Lean initiative. Lean Six Sigma certification and/or training desired.
  • Understanding ISO13485 is desired.
