About the position

Excelitas is a global technology leader with more than 7,500 employees, focused on delivering market-driven solutions to fulfill the illumination, optical, detection, and imaging needs of OEMs and end-users across various sectors including biomedical, semiconductor, industrial, consumer products, scientific, security, defense, and aerospace. We are currently seeking a Jr. Manufacturing Engineer to provide essential manufacturing engineering support and process improvement in a low volume production environment. This role involves processes such as wave and hand soldering of components to PC board assemblies, mechanical assembly, glass sealing/forming, and high vacuum processing. The primary goals of this position are to meet commitments to customers, maintain a high level of quality, and achieve operational goals. The successful candidate will focus on improving processes through continuous improvement projects and initiatives, which will require strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach. In this role, the Jr. Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for maintaining production documentation to document critical process characteristics and establish appropriate process controls. Training production operators as required is also a key responsibility. The engineer will investigate process and manufacturing problems during fabrication, testing, and assembly operations, initiating corrective actions as necessary. Utilizing SolidWorks for updates of existing CAD drawings and new designs is expected, along with improving and streamlining processes by enhancing yields, eliminating waste, and implementing cost-saving ideas. The engineer will design a variety of tools, jigs, and fixtures to assist in increasing production efficiency and will handle multiple projects, coordinating with other operations to ensure schedules are met, quality is maintained, and manufacturing costs are minimized. Additionally, the Jr. Manufacturing Engineer will review engineering designs for manufacturing feasibility and recommend design changes that will enhance production while eliminating variation. Training production employees in the operation of specialized equipment may also be required. Ensuring a safe work environment by monitoring near misses and conducting accident investigations to prevent recurrence is a critical aspect of this role. The engineer will perform other related duties of comparable complexity as directed, contributing to the overall success of the manufacturing team.
