About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer at Actalent is responsible for providing new product and tooling designs that meet customer requirements while ensuring manufacturability. This role involves applying engineering concepts to support manufacturing processes and production engineering, as well as collaborating with customers and account management to create effective part designs.

Responsibilities

  • Clearly and concisely document both new and existing processes, including Press Brake part creation, Welding, Paint and/or finishing, and Electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Generate part and assembly drawings from new and revised designs.
  • Generate packaging requirements.
  • Assemble job router packets as required.
  • Transfer customer part information into the CAD/CAM system and maintain accurate and consistent part information on computer files.
  • Generate fixture designs for manufacturing processes and inspection, utilizing CAD and 3D tools.
  • Actively work with Production to define improvements in work stations and processes.
  • Participate or conduct Design for Manufacturing Reviews internally and externally with customers.
  • Review routings to look for the best manufacturing options and review bills of material to confirm accuracy and finalize shear sizes.
  • Gain clarification from customer representatives on models received or DFM changes needed.
  • Seek deviations from the original design.
  • Drive Design Engineering process improvements.
  • Update and recommend new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Train others on engineering standards, specifications, and practices.
  • Adhere to engineering standards, specifications, and practices, and make suggestions for their improvement.
  • Perform MECR Processing, Time Studies, and NMR Evaluation.

Requirements

  • 4-8 years experience making work instructions and troubleshooting on the floor.
  • Solidworks fixture design and routing.
  • Experience with sheet metal cutting, bending, forming, welding, painting, and packaging.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) review of complex assemblies.
  • Customer interaction experience.
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Process observation skills.
  • Experience with time studies.
  • Familiarity with Engineering Change Requests (ECR/ECO).

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelors or Associates degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering preferred but not required.
