About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting Sweetgreen's manufacturing operations for the Infinite Kitchen (IK), focusing on enhancing the assembly process and ensuring efficient production at the contract manufacturing facility in Westborough, MA. This position involves engineering support for design changes, resolving manufacturing issues, and collaborating with stakeholders to improve throughput and reliability in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Support all of Sweetgreen's manufacturing operations for the Infinite Kitchen (IK) primarily onsite at the contract manufacturing facility.
  • Provide engineering support to execute design changes, deviations, and reworks, resolving manufacturing issues and clearing blockers to production schedules.
  • Initiate Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and create redlines to part and assembly drawings, implementing changes to 3D and 2D CAD files as needed.
  • Work with key stakeholders at contract manufacturers to ensure procurement and assembly activities align with Sweetgreen's business needs.
  • Propose, test, and implement assembly process changes to improve throughput and reliability of IK manufacturing.
  • Design, prototype, and implement mechanical jigs and fixtures to enhance assembly processes.
  • Collaborate with quality engineering to define requirements and processes for incoming material inspection.
  • Support component-level Design For Manufacture (DFM) efforts by proposing changes to the Design Engineering Team and assisting in validation and implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in hardware R&D or manufacturing, with at least 2 years as a Manufacturing Engineer focusing on assembly and testing of complex, large-format industrial equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standard instruments and practices for inspecting mechanical components.
  • Familiarity with fabrication processes including CNC Machining, Injection Molding, Sheet Metal fabrication, Wire/Cable, Welding, Casting, and PCB fabrication and assembly.
  • Experience with enterprise product change management tools (PDM & PLM) and industry-standard change control (ECO) processes.
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD software tools, preferably Solidworks.
  • Familiarity with standards of mechanical documentation including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and ability to create and maintain polished documentation.
