About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer position at Steelcase involves leading the introduction of new products into the manufacturing facility, enhancing productivity and profitability of existing processes, and providing ongoing support throughout the manufacturing lifecycle. The role requires acting as a technical expert in process technology improvements and involves evaluating manufacturing processes to optimize costs and productivity while ensuring worker safety.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the introduction of new products into the facility.
  • Improve productivity and profitability of existing production procedures.
  • Provide ongoing support through the manufacturing life cycle.
  • Evaluate manufacturing processes to ensure optimal labor and material costs.
  • Identify areas for improvement through justifications and evaluations.
  • Track expenditures to ensure they are within budgeted amounts.
  • Identify, reduce, and eliminate ergonomic stress exposures in the workplace.
  • Provide timely product and process support to diagnose problems and implement solutions.
  • Lead the implementation of significant product, process, or corporate change initiatives.
  • Provide advanced research to introduce/integrate new processes, equipment, and technologies.

Requirements

  • 4 year technical degree or equivalent education.
  • Very strong analysis skills in process, capacity, cost/benefit, waste stream, and quality tools.
  • Knowledge in lean manufacturing techniques including flow, PQ, equipment reliability, and set up reduction.
  • Facilitation and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of material handling and productivity improvement techniques.
  • Experience in design, specification, purchase, and installation of new equipment.
  • Experience in the Engineering Design Process.
  • Knowledge of simulation, process modeling, and value stream mapping.
  • Project management and leadership ability.
  • Occupational Bio Mechanics/Human Factors Engineering knowledge.

Nice-to-haves

  • Internal and external quality support/management experience.
  • Behavior sciences knowledge (logic, sociology, etc.).
  • Economics and financial analysis skills.
  • Work measurement experience.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly in Excel and Access.
