About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer position at Actalent focuses on establishing and optimizing the manufacturing process for composite aircraft production. The role involves defining production equipment, tools, systems, and materials necessary for efficient operations, overseeing fabrication and assembly processes, and implementing lean manufacturing principles for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes on the factory floor.
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods using knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication processes, tooling, and quality control standards.
  • Analyzes and plans workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow, designing layout for maximum efficiency.
  • Confers with planning and design staff regarding product design and tooling for efficient production methods.
  • Works with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for the purchase of equipment and materials.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs for management decisions.
  • Collaborates with management and engineering staff regarding manufacturing capabilities and production schedules.
  • Writes manufacturing work instructions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or 7+ years of experience in lieu of formal education.
  • Experience with aircraft composites fabrication and assembly.
  • FAA approved Airframe and Powerplant license (A&P License) is a plus.
  • Experience with aircraft systems integration, installation, and assembly is a plus.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophies and tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong team player.
  • Proficient in computer skills including Word, Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint.
  • CAD experience (CATIA V5 preferred).
  • GD&T skills through experience and/or formal training.
  • Knowledge and experience with AS9100 is a plus.
  • Experience with manufacturing-based ERP systems is a plus.
