About the position

Apex Systems is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in North Reading, MA. This hybrid position requires 3-4 days a week onsite and involves a contract duration of 1-1.5 years. The Manufacturing Engineer will play a crucial role in the New Product Introduction (NPI) and scalability processes, transitioning a diverse range of products from design to production. The successful candidate will collaborate cross-functionally to develop suppliers, manage product lifecycle changes, lead product quality improvement initiatives, and address technical root causes in supplier quality activities. This role demands a strong background in manufacturing and supplier quality engineering, enabling the engineer to make significant business decisions on behalf of the organization. In this position, you will manage and guide electromechanical suppliers to ensure ramp-up and scalability, provide supplier quality engineering support, and establish best practices for manufacturing tolerances using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). You will also be responsible for launching tooling with accelerated schedules, assessing project risks associated with the electromechanical supplier base, and reviewing external production processes to identify and mitigate risks. Additionally, you will qualify production processes based on dimensional data, control plans, and PFMEAs, drive internal and external FMEA reviews, and solve technical problems across various manufacturing commodities. The role also includes managing electromechanical supplier quality issues, proposing design changes to enhance product manufacturability and testability, and evaluating and approving product Electrical Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).

Responsibilities

  • Manage and guide electromechanical suppliers for ramp-up and scalability.
  • Provide supplier quality engineering support for scalability.
  • Guide best practices on manufacturing tolerances using GD&T.
  • Launch tooling with accelerated schedules and assess project risk for electromechanical supplier base.
  • Review external production processes, identify risk and mitigate.
  • Qualify production processes based on dimensional data, control plans, PFMEAs.
  • Drive internal and external FMEA reviews.
  • Solve technical problems across a broad set of manufacturing commodities.
  • Manage electromechanical supplier quality problems when necessary; drive containment and root cause activities.
  • Propose design changes that will enhance product manufacturability and testability.
  • Evaluate and approve product Electrical Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Evaluate production, supplier and field failures for root cause analysis and resolution.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of senior experience, 1-5 years of associate applicable industry experience within process/manufacturing vertical at desired scale along with a technical degree.
  • Experience with SolidWorks-CAD.
  • Utilizing a PLM tool (Agile) & Visio experience or similar diagramming and process applications.
  • Experience working with and knowledgeable of core concepts/industry use of PCBAs and electromechanical components (cameras, lenses, scanners, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience managing product lifecycle & partnering with third-party manufacturers for establishing and identifying best practices, quality control (root cause analysis), scalability, and tolerances (GD&T).
  • Experience with bill of materials (BOM) and engineering change orders (ECO).
  • Ability to travel domestically & internationally (Mexico).
