About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining, developing, and supporting manufacturing processes while coordinating the launch of new products from prototype to production. This position focuses on continuous improvement of manufacturing processes to enhance quality, productivity, and cost-effectiveness. The ideal candidate will possess strong problem-solving skills, electrical component troubleshooting abilities, and a detail-oriented approach, along with excellent collaboration skills to work effectively in team settings.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment, and document processes via work instructions while training the team to standards.
  • Support the manufacturing team in resolving issues identified during production, particularly those related to electromechanical components and systems.
  • Design, develop, and qualify poka-yoke and fixturing strategies to reduce process variation in assembly processes.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues related to both electrical and mechanical aspects of systems.
  • Develop and implement process improvements related to cycle time reduction, cost reduction, and eliminating non-value-added activities.
  • Provide feedback to engineering on new designs focusing on Design for Manufacturability and Design for Reliability.
  • Participate in design reviews and review/approve part drawings from engineering.
  • Act as a customer advocate when addressing quality issues, utilizing problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and corrective actions for any escapes.
  • Support the Engineering Change Order (ECO) system from generation through implementation.
  • Design tooling/fixturing and establish process flow to ensure the safest possible working environment.
  • Establish part criticality levels based on design intent and correlation to system performance.
  • Perform first article inspections/qualification of internally machined and supplied parts as needed.
  • Implement AQL-driven sampling plans and methods to ensure part compliance and drive supplier accountability.
  • Design and test product packaging in accordance with ISTA standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience as a manufacturing engineer or in a related technical role.
  • SolidWorks drawing and modeling proficiency.
  • Understanding of how electrical controls and mechanical parts work together.
  • Strong understanding of electrical components and their integration into electromechanical systems for troubleshooting and creating test procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing, engineering, quality tools and techniques, including FMEA, Design for Manufacturability (DfM), Statistical Process Control, and variation reduction.
  • Proficient with mechanical inspection using hand tools, calipers, force gauges, etc.
  • Excellent computer skills (CAD, Microsoft Office & ERP).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in machining and/or precision mechanical assembly.
  • Kaizen and/or Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • Working knowledge of CMM inspection equipment.
  • Basic familiarity with ISO:9001 standard.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements related to RoHS and REACH.
  • Experience with complex electromechanical instrument or development manufacture and supply.
