About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer at Precision Castparts Corp. (PCC) plays a crucial role in developing and implementing manufacturing processes that ensure the achievement of performance goals related to safety, quality, throughput, delinquencies, productivity, first pass yield, and variable cost. This position is primarily hands-on, with approximately 80% of the work time spent on the production floor and 20% in an office environment. The engineer will identify, prioritize, and implement process improvements using statistical analysis, Lean/Six Sigma tools, and engineering techniques to enhance operational efficiency. In this role, the Manufacturing Engineer will assemble teams of experts to analyze failure modes, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions while ensuring compliance with performance targets. Collaboration with manufacturing, quality, engineering, maintenance, and purchasing leaders is essential to maximize productivity and minimize costs while meeting safety and quality standards. The engineer will also establish necessary inspection criteria, tooling, and fixtures to produce products that meet customer requirements and develop standard work instructions to improve safety and productivity. Additionally, the Manufacturing Engineer will aid in capital improvement projects aimed at cost savings and throughput enhancement, work closely with finance and materials management to ensure accurate manufacturing costs, and provide training to employees on production procedures. Staying updated on technological advancements and ensuring all equipment is maintained for optimal performance are also key responsibilities. The role fosters a culture of safety, aiming for zero safety-related incidents annually, and includes other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies, prioritizes, and implements process improvements to achieve performance metrics in safety, quality, throughput, and productivity.
  • Assembles teams to determine root causes of failures and implements corrective actions.
  • Partners with various leaders to manage and coordinate process activities for productivity and cost efficiency.
  • Establishes inspection criteria, tooling, and fixtures for product production.
  • Develops standard work instructions to improve safety and productivity.
  • Aids in capital improvement projects for cost savings and throughput improvement.
  • Works with finance and materials management to ensure accurate manufacturing costs and process routings.
  • Ensures employee training on production procedures and practices.
  • Collaborates with purchasing and suppliers to enhance process reliability and reduce costs.
  • Provides manufacturing expertise during problem resolution.
  • Stays updated on technological advancements impacting production.
  • Works with maintenance to ensure equipment is properly set and maintained.
  • Maintains system documentation for processes and procedures.
  • Fosters a culture of safety to ensure zero safety-related incidents annually.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2+ years of machining experience preferred (e.g., Header, Roll Former, CNC).
  • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies such as Lean/Six Sigma; certification preferred.
  • Understanding of total quality management systems and tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Black Belt certification in Lean/Six Sigma.
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools.
  • Familiarity with advanced manufacturing technologies.
