In this role, the Manufacturing Engineer will analyze, develop, and coordinate manufacturing process instructions specifically for polymer extrusion processes aimed at creating medical tubing. The engineer will work closely with production planning and product design teams to ensure that product designs, tooling, and workforce training are aligned with manufacturing capabilities. A key aspect of the job involves designing and evaluating new and existing layouts, product flows, fixtures, and equipment, all while supporting a LEAN manufacturing environment. The engineer will also be responsible for developing, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods, analyzing workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow to design equipment layouts that maximize efficiency. Identifying production constraints and bottlenecks will be essential, along with recommending methods to eliminate these issues. The use of Statistical Process Control (SPC) will be crucial in refining methods, improving quality, and increasing throughput. Additionally, the engineer will provide input on innovative ways to reduce costs by streamlining processes and systems, develop labor hour baselines for continuous improvement projects, and identify manufacturing technologies that align with strategic business objectives. Managing both large- and small-scale manufacturing projects will be a significant part of the role, including overseeing project timelines, capital requests, and budget responsibilities. Responsibilities

  • Analyze, develop, and coordinate manufacturing process instructions for polymer extrusion processes to create medical tubing.
  • Confer with production planning and product design staff concerning product design, tooling, and workforce training.
  • Design and evaluate new and existing layouts, product flows, fixtures, and equipment supporting a LEAN manufacturing environment.
  • Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods.
  • Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and design layout of equipment workspace for maximum efficiency.
  • Identify production constraints and bottlenecks; recommend methods to eliminate them.
  • Utilize SPC to refine methods, improve quality, and increase throughput.
  • Provide input on creative ways to reduce costs by streamlining processes and systems.
  • Develop labor hours for all products as a baseline for continuous improvement projects.
  • Identify and recommend manufacturing technologies to strategically develop business objectives.
  • Manage large- and small-scale manufacturing projects, including project timelines, capital requests, and budget responsibility.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, Polymer, Electrical, Manufacturing, or other Engineering or STEM degree.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing Systems or Lean Certification preferred.
  • Project management experience.
  • Familiarity with Value Stream mapping, 5s/6s, Kaizen, Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Action, etc.
  • Experience with SPC software (Minitab/InfinityQS), OEE tracking (RedZone, Epicor, DELMIAworks).
  • Knowledge of Oracle, SAP, or other ERP, CMMS, Manufacturing execution systems.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, and 3D modeling.
  • Experience with Equipment/Machine reliability, PLC programming/troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with reporting/dashboard/data analytics tools like Power BI, Tableau, Microsoft SSRS, Microsoft Project.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100, IATF 16949, or other similar quality standards/management systems.
