This role requires demonstrating subject matter expertise to complete process improvements, design effective operating instructions, and implement best practices uniformly across the manufacturing enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple root cause and prevention initiatives, analyzing existing process parameters to improve workplace safety, first-time product acceptance, product defect detection, and throughput capabilities.
  • Incorporate design for safety and human factors into all process integrations and improvements.
  • Work in teams, take direction, and produce sustainable results across all manufacturing engineering disciplines, including FMEA, control plans, product quotes, process improvement, process design and integration, tooling/gauging/workstation design, training, and lean principles.
  • Engage in daily process improvement with front line team members and supervisors to evaluate, support, and sustain a robust process.
  • Collaborate daily with Program Engineers and Quality Engineering Team to develop focused action plans and projects aimed at process and total quality improvement.
  • Translate and implement customer product specifications into financially sound manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Demonstrate skill in tooling, machine, and flow improvements to decrease total costs and drive throughput speed.
  • Utilize the operational excellence operating system to streamline production systems, working towards one-piece-flow, reducing work-in-process inventory, and sustaining process improvements with total productive maintenance.
  • Identify and develop improved tooling and inspection equipment to support operational goals.
  • Review customer-supplied BOM and develop an internal manufacturing BOM according to company standards.
  • Interface with customer engineering resources to satisfy customer demand and quality goals.
  • Prepare and submit new process change documentation and supervise new product validation plans to the customer for final approval (PPAP).
  • Prepare and submit new process floor layout proposals and prepare presentations for customer and leadership approval.
  • Coordinate launch of new products with business operations, based on new product launch and implementation timing goals.
  • Troubleshoot operational capability, quality, capacity, and equipment reliability problems, facilitating problem-solving efforts to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • Prepare and submit methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities, such as reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchasing equipment.
  • Analyze business demands and develop forward-looking capital spend plan documents.
  • Mentor and train subordinate production and engineering staff, providing regular status reports and updates to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.
  • Adhere to the policies, procedures, work rules, and instructions of the IATF and internal Quality Management System, as well as ISO Environmental Management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, technology, or physical science discipline.
  • 5-10 years of proven manufacturing engineering experience driving process integration and improvement.
  • Proven experience leading and improving a manufacturing process both independently and in teams.
  • Practical knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, hydraulics, electronics, pneumatics, machine design/operation, and computer software.
  • Thorough understanding of the operational theory and principles of automatic transmissions and internal combustion engines.
  • 5+ years of experience with assembly of complex mechanical assemblies.
  • High level of analytical ability required for unusual and difficult problems.
  • 5+ years of Lean manufacturing operational theory, principles, and tools.
  • 5+ years of experience prioritizing and assigning tasks, and accurately estimating time and costs for project completion.
  • Experience in creating, developing, adapting, and communicating tool design concepts using advanced design tools (ACAD) and techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing documents, drawings, and schematics.
  • Superior communication and escalation skills, including customer, team member, and leadership communication.
