About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer at WEG Electric Corp. is responsible for overseeing the manufacturing process within the Wind Division. This role focuses on defining, evaluating, and improving manufacturing methods and procedures to enhance safety, efficiency, quality, and cycle-time. The engineer serves as the primary contact for production issues, ensuring that the production team is equipped with the necessary tools and specifications to minimize rework and costs.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the manufacturing process expert to resolve issues on the production floor.
  • Ensure the production team has the proper tooling and process specifications.
  • Create documented process specifications and work instructions using technical writing skills.
  • Provide direction to the production team regarding design interpretations, drawings, and work instructions.
  • Organize and categorize existing tooling for easy access during production.
  • Manage production test setups and configuration development.
  • Lead Manufacturing Design-Reviews to identify manufacturability, quality, cost, and delivery issues before design release.
  • Write Engineering Change Requests for product improvements identified by the manufacturing team.
  • Capture and disposition all quality-related notifications.
  • Support various factory areas including new machine builds, service rebuilds, and spare parts production.
  • Communicate proactively to prevent production delays.
  • Collaborate with the LEAN continuous-improvement manager to study and prioritize manufacturing processes for improvement.
  • Support Continuous Improvement Initiatives to drive bottom-line improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an industrial production environment.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience designing and fabricating production tooling.
  • Experience in manufacturing electric motors and/or generators preferred.
  • Self-managed with a demonstrated record of managing projects that produce quantifiable bottom-line improvements.
  • Proficient in Solidworks and Autocad; knowledge of Ansys and vibration analysis tools preferred.
  • Knowledge of SAP preferred.
  • LEAN Practitioner with successful application of LEAN concepts in industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Competent public speaker capable of interacting with all levels of staff.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to optimize information and process flow.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
