Manufacturing Engineer

About the position

We are seeking a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to support the production of metal fabrication for space and commercial aerospace customers. The role involves evaluating, developing, planning, coordinating, directing, and improving manufacturing processes, with a strong emphasis on tooling and equipment upgrades and special projects. This position will involve collaboration with various departments to facilitate manufacturing process development and improvement.

Responsibilities

• Plan and perform complex manufacturing engineering assignments on various production lines.
• Participate in quotation proposals by developing manufacturing concepts in conjunction with interested company members.
• Participate in product and process development and design reviews; approve all engineering drawings and ensure smooth transfer into production.
• Provide technical and direct assistance to supervisors on day-to-day operations, making them aware of manufacturing plans and assisting in achieving optimum results.
• Coordinate with tool engineering on planning, design, construction or procurement, proofing, and release of tooling.
• Expedite, control, and monitor projects throughout all production phases.
• Conduct failure analysis in conjunction with cognizant company personnel.
• Act as a liaison between supervisors and members of other affected departments.
• Review and approve engineering drawings and documentation prior to release to manufacturing to ensure conformance to manufacturing concepts and established practices.
• Investigate and approve design and process change requests.
• Conduct cost analysis for cost control of designated lines of company products and conduct other special investigations and floor follow-up as required.
• Recommend vendors and coordinate on vendor problems related to processing of designated line items.
• Provide operational guidance to manufacturing engineering and technicians when assigned.
• Conduct and participate in Lean Manufacturing activities, including 6S and other improvement events.

Requirements

• Four-year college degree or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Three to six years of manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace manufacturing or related industry.
• Manufacturing engineering skills.
• Experience with metal fabrication.
• Process improvement experience.
• Experience with routers, bill of materials, process improvements, work instructions, production support, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of metal forming and welding.
• Experience with metals such as Inconel, titanium, and stainless steel.
• Continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing knowledge.
• Six Sigma certification.
• Tooling experience.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks.
• Experience with CNC machining.
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
• Experience in aerospace manufacturing.
