About the position

Sandvik Coromant is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Mebane, NC. As part of the global Sandvik engineering family, we are at the forefront of manufacturing tools and machining solutions that drive industry standards and innovations. The Manufacturing Engineer will manage the complete lifecycle of make-to-order (MTO) special cutting tools within our production facility. This role requires a keen attention to detail, strong communication skills, and effective coordination between various teams including customers, sales, design, production, quality, and logistics to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of custom tool orders. In this position, the Manufacturing Engineer will develop and implement processes aimed at achieving cost efficiency, quality targets, and compliance with production standards. The role also involves overseeing production schedules to ensure they are met for the assigned production line(s). The successful candidate will generate cost and lead time estimates for new and repeat custom orders, develop reliable and cost-effective manufacturing processes, and drive improvements that enhance productivity and quality. The Manufacturing Engineer will review new orders and product designs for manufacturability, collaborate with teams to balance workload and meet customer demands, and coordinate with subcontractors to achieve timely results. Additionally, the role includes supporting production to ensure the timely flow of products, reviewing designs, creating fixtures, and developing routings to identify potential problems. Proactive communication with other departments to improve manufacturing processes is essential, as is the ability to develop complex manufacturing processes that meet customer specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Generate cost and lead time estimates and quotations for new and repeat custom orders.
  • Develop manufacturing and production processes that are reliable, cost-effective, and aligned with the organization's short- and long-term business objectives.
  • Drive and contribute to improvements that increase productivity, quality, and cost-efficiency of equipment, processes, and best practices.
  • Review new orders and product designs/drawings for manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with the team to balance workload, meet customer demands, and prioritize tasks to ensure optimal machine utilization.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to balance workload, meet customer demands, and achieve cost-effective, timely results.
  • Support production in all aspects to ensure the timely flow of products, follow up on issues, and address any production or delivery-related problems promptly.
  • Review designs, create fixtures, and develop routings to identify potential problems and provide feedback to key stakeholders.
  • Proactively communicate with other departments to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Develop complex manufacturing processes to ensure quality products that meet customer specifications.
  • Perform the duties of a manufacturing engineer as required.
  • Undertake additional duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in engineering, business administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in order management, supply chain, or production coordination, preferably in a custom manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints and interpreting GD&T.
  • Good understanding of production machines and manufacturing processes, especially for special tools, and familiarity with industry-specific requirements.
  • Ability to create work instructions, presentations, and other documentation using MS Office software.
  • Experience with SAP/PLM and NX systems is a plus.
  • Must have the legal right to work in the USA.
