INEOS Pigments is one of the largest TiO2 producers in North America, operating two plants within a single complex in Ashtabula, OH. The business has capacity to produce over 220ktes/yr of TiO2 & related Ti-Chem products, for which the business is the market leader in North America, generating total annual revenues in excess of $750M. The TiO2 industry is a global-trade business, with the major competitors all operating on a world scale. INEOS Pigments sales are primarily in North America, where finished goods are shipped to customers by both road & rail. The business also exports around 50kte/yr, mostly into Latin America & Europe. This role provides day-to-day technical support to the manufacturing operations to enable the department to meet planned objectives related to safety, environmental, quality, production and cost. Manufacturing Engineers are primarily responsible for assisting the manufacturing team in solving operational problems, participating in HAZOPs, weekend duty/trial support, and optimizing unit processes/operations. This is a salaried exempt, day shift position. It is classified as a Safety Critical role.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to INEOS Pigments' 20 principles of process and Behavioral Safety and Life Saving Rules
  • Work with Operators and other functional groups to optimize plant operations and drive continuous improvement consistent with Unit goals and Company strategy
  • Track performance vs target, investigate deviations and implement solutions in a timely manner
  • Utilize other resources to troubleshoot production issues and work toward resolution in a collaborative and effective manner
  • Ensure compliance with main work processes, evaluate and improve existing processes and develop new processes as necessary
  • Investigate reasons for downtime/failures, assist in the identification of root causes and development/implementation of technical solutions
  • Coordinate all trial activity with T&I and the operating unit
  • Be on call to assist operations in troubleshooting, calculating releases, etc.
  • Offer technical assistance for documentation governing the facility operations and edit procedures for new processes or changes as needed
  • Represent operating unit on trial teams, reliability teams, and attend HAZOP's
  • Provide statistical analysis for process improvements
  • Assist with unit SAP recipes
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering required; preferably in Chemical Engineering
  • 1+ years of related chemical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of the various unit operations including: chemical reactors, distillation, heat transfer, evaporation, drying, milling, filtration, pumping, fluid flow, material handling and support services
  • Understanding of Flow Diagrams and Process and Instrument Diagrams and how they relate to process changes, upgrades and new installations
  • Ability to use analytical processes (appraise a situation, develop supporting plans, make decisions, generate innovative ideas, analyze and troubleshoot operational problems); Six Sigma training a plus
  • Working knowledge of chemical/industrial equipment function, design, and regulatory requirements and Process Safety Management and ISO systems and procedures
  • Understanding of test methods and pilot plant philosophy
  • Functionality with various computer programs, specifically Microsoft Office Suite and SAP
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of employees
