About the position

The Manufacturing Engineer at Shiloh Industries plays a crucial role in the organization, focusing on the creation and modification of equipment, tooling, and process specifications to ensure the production of consistent end products for customers. This position is integral to the successful implementation of new projects and engineering changes, aligning with customer requirements to enhance product quality and delivery while maintaining cost competitiveness. The Manufacturing Engineer will lead various projects, overseeing cost and milestone control, and will be responsible for planning the setup and teardown of production equipment. In addition to project management, the Manufacturing Engineer will create performance descriptions for equipment and procure offers for necessary equipment and parts. A significant aspect of this role involves collecting and analyzing process data, coordinating with production and quality teams to facilitate effective problem-solving and process optimization. The engineer will provide floor support to troubleshoot process issues, employing continuous improvement and root cause analysis techniques. Furthermore, the Manufacturing Engineer will develop, revise, and document manufacturing processes to meet established goals related to cost, quality, scrap, labor, and safety. Safety is a paramount concern, and the Manufacturing Engineer will enforce safety procedures, remaining vigilant to unsafe behaviors or conditions and taking corrective actions as needed. This position requires a collaborative approach, working closely with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and innovation in manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the successful implementation of new projects, engineering and process changes, in agreement with the customer, to ensure and improve quality and delivery of products, while maintaining cost competitiveness.
  • Leads respective projects including cost and milestone control.
  • Plans the set-up and tear-down of production equipment.
  • Creates performance descriptions for equipment.
  • Obtains offers for equipment and parts to purchase.
  • Collects and analyzes process data by coordinating efforts of production and quality for effective problem solving and process optimization.
  • Provides floor support to troubleshoot process problems using continuous improvement and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Develops, revises and documents manufacturing processes to meet cost, quality, scrap, labor and safety goals.
  • Implements customer product reviews by providing prototypes, tooling and equipment.
  • Enforces and follows safety procedures, being attentive to unsafe behaviors or conditions, and taking necessary corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in welding and stamping processes.
  • IATF certification highly preferred.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Knowledge of Database software, Project Management software, Manufacturing software, CMMS Software (Plex preferred), Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
  • Ability to function in a high-pressure environment and to meet stringent deadlines for completing tasks.
