About the position

The Mechanical Drafter II position at Custom Microwave Inc., a Vitesse Systems Company, is a critical role within our engineering team, focusing on the design and manufacturing of advanced antenna solutions for satellite applications. This position requires a skilled individual who can create both 2D and 3D drawings and models using SolidWorks, ensuring that our products meet the high standards expected in the aerospace, telecom, and defense industries. The successful candidate will work cross-departmentally, collaborating with various teams to generate manufacturing routers for the fabrication of cutting-edge RF antenna components. This role is not just about drafting; it involves a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing process and the ability to troubleshoot and support the manufacturing team throughout the product lifecycle. In this position, you will be responsible for administering Manufacturing Change Notices (MCNs) in accordance with internal guidelines, providing support and guidance to peers and stakeholders, and ensuring that all work is documented appropriately using our internal systems. You will also be expected to create and review drawings that incorporate Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), which is essential for maintaining precision in our manufacturing processes. The role requires a proactive approach to learning and adapting to internal, industry, and customer requirements, which will be achieved through assigned training and hands-on experience. We are looking for someone who is not only technically proficient but also possesses excellent communication skills to effectively interact with engineers and manufacturing personnel. Responsibilities

  • Create 2D and 3D mechanical drawings and models using SolidWorks
  • Create and review manufacturing routers
  • Administer Manufacturing Change Notice (MCNs) per internal guidelines
  • Provide support and troubleshooting to Manufacturing Team during product lifecycle
  • Document all work product using paper records, EPDM, and GSS (MRP system)
  • Provide general guidance and occasional training and oversight to peers and internal stakeholders
  • Complete assigned internal training to understand internal, industry, and customer requirements
  • Create and review drawings using GD&T
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in related discipline; may be substituted by commensurate experience
  • 3-7 years of related drafting experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with an MRP system
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with GD&T
  • Must provide proof of US Citizenship or Permanent Residency to comply with ITAR requirements
  • Ability to pass a drug screen per Custom Microwave, Inc.'s drug testing policy
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check per Custom Microwave, Inc.'s policy

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of 3D printing, both plastics and metal
  • Experience with specialized manufacturing processes, especially electroforming
  • Excellent technical communication skills with engineers and manufacturing personnel
  • Strong attention to detail and mathematical abilities
  • Able to work within strict deadlines
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
