About the position

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager at BAE Systems is responsible for leading engineering teams that support the production of advanced combat vehicles. This role involves overseeing CNC programming, fabrication, welding process development, and tool design, while ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards. The manager will also interface with senior leadership and stakeholders, manage departmental budgets, and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Guide manufacturing engineering teams supporting combat vehicle production.
  • Oversee CNC programming, fabrication, welding process development, and tool design.
  • Provide support to the production floor and implement engineering design changes.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts in manufacturing processes.
  • Act as a Project Leader during equipment installations, ensuring on-time completion and budget adherence.
  • Develop staffing plans and manage hiring, training, and career development of engineering staff.
  • Interface with senior leadership and stakeholders to resolve technical concerns and ensure delivery schedules are met.
  • Develop annual departmental operating budgets and monitor budget performance.
  • Contribute to the documentation and sharing of best practices and manufacturing strategies.
  • Conduct risk assessments of processes and equipment to ensure safety compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related degree.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, including knowledge of machining, fabrication, tool design, and welding processes.
  • Experience with engineering and Microsoft Office Suite applications.
  • Demonstrated use of ERP systems for product sequence and BOM definition.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
  • Ability to develop innovative technical solutions to engineering problems.
  • Commitment to strong safety practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of CNC programming languages such as Siemens NX or Mastercam.
  • Experience with 3D CAD Software like PTC Creo, ProE, or Catia.
  • Knowledge of inspection methods and processes.
  • Experience with military and commercial design standards.
  • 10+ years of relevant manufacturing experience with progressive responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and material properties.
  • Experience with robotic weld systems and automated solutions.
