About the position

The Engineering Manager leads and coordinates the activities of the engineering and estimating team to quote, design, manufacture, and test precision machined components, products, and systems. This role is crucial in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of engineering processes while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team of engineers and CNC programmers, schedule the workload, create standards, harmonize tooling and programming and manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, planning and quality personnel to resolve any programming and manufacturing issues.
  • Lead team of estimators to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates, operational strategies, and customer quotations.
  • Ability to change priorities in a fast paced, dynamic shop atmosphere.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in processes, cycle time reduction, and automation to increase quality and production flow.
  • Read drawings and models and lead team to establish optimum machining parameters and tool paths.
  • Develop technical data packages for manufacturing including set up sheets, in process inspection sheet.
  • Maintain document control system, customer documentation, CNC program revisions and support documentation for internal and customer specified changes.
  • Build and design tooling/ jaws and fixture as needed.
  • Develop and manage budgets for annual departmental operations as well as new product introduction (NPI) projects.
  • Drive safety culture, awareness, and initiatives for engineering team.
  • Ability to build and deploy a strategic vision for the department to include new machining centers, standardization, automation, and new technology/techniques.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of CNC machining with horizontal mills, 3, 4, and 5-axis mills, lathes, and mill-turn work centers.
  • Minimum 5 years management and scheduling experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years with Siemens NX or MasterCam experience.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in precision machine shop environment.
  • ERP software experience (Global Shop a plus) - engineering routers, item master maintenance, cost estimates.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering or accredited Trade School certifications are a plus.
  • Experience with programming and set up for lights out manufacturing.
  • Efficient in reading prints, GD&T, and working with solid models (NX, Solidworks, Catia).
  • Prior experience as a CNC machine operator in a manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Computer skills with an emphasis on Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Project.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Makino, Hermle, HAAS, and DMG Mori preferred.
  • Good reading and writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
