About the position

The Manufacturing Equipment Engineer at Tesla, Inc. is responsible for operating, sustaining, and improving automated manufacturing equipment within the production engineering team. This role focuses on minimizing downtime through quick resolution of equipment breakdowns, conducting root cause analysis, and enhancing equipment effectiveness. The engineer will also lead equipment upgrades, develop validation procedures, and provide training and support to technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Sustain production operation by responding to and resolving manufacturing and equipment breakdowns quickly and efficiently.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and perform root cause analysis to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
  • Lead equipment upgrades focusing on serviceability, reliability, and process capability.
  • Develop and improve equipment validation procedures including calibration and qualification.
  • Serve as Expert Level Trainer on all machines in assigned area and provide guidance to shift technicians.
  • Provide hands-on support to the maintenance team to troubleshoot and resolve extended downtime situations.
  • Create, implement, and improve Preventative and Predictive Maintenance documents and schedules.
  • Program ladder logic and structured text on multiple PLC controller platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Beckhoff).
  • Program and lead industrial 6-axis robots (Fanuc) for various applications including material pick-and-place, dispense, fastening, welding, and conveyance.
  • Participate in spare part analysis and inventory development, working with the Spares Department to RMA faulty components and communicate needs to the vendor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in mechanical engineering, process engineering, industrial engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience in PLC programming, motion control, and safety devices.
  • Experience in vision system development and qualification (i.e., Cognex).
  • Setup of industrial network communication devices (TCP/IP, Modbus, Profinet, etc.).
  • Commissioning and improving equipment using Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) methodologies.
  • Experience in preventative and predictive maintenance.
  • Developing and improving HMIs.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), Safety, Ergonomics, Change Point Management, and Spare Parts Management.
  • Utilizing structured problem-solving techniques such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, Five Why (5W), or Eight Disciplines (8D).
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D modeling software.
