About the position

The Optical Communications segment has transitioned from merely manufacturing optical fiber and cable to providing comprehensive optical solutions across the communications industry. This segment is divided into two primary product groupings: carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network focuses on optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data, and voice communications, while the enterprise network caters to businesses, governments, and individuals with their own optical communication needs. In this role, you will serve as a technical resource responsible for identifying and implementing activities in production areas to meet production goals, quality standards, and cost objectives. You will prioritize production schedules based on product information, equipment efficiency, and materials supply. Your assignments will come in the form of objectives with defined goals and processes to achieve them. You will provide direction to technical and trades teams in accordance with established policies and management guidance. Your work will be reviewed by management to assess the achievement of objectives. You will frequently interact with supervisors, technical resources, outside customers, and functional peer groups at both individual contributor and management levels, requiring the ability to gain cooperation from others and effectively communicate technical information regarding project schedules and action plans for improvement. You will collaborate with other technical employees to troubleshoot methodologies and prioritize tasks, iterating departmental project plans on a weekly to monthly basis. Additionally, you will interface with outside departments to balance resources and secure necessary parts, while analyzing project goals and designing or modifying equipment, procedures, and documentation to enhance production efficiency.

Requirements

  • Technical bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or controls preferred.
  • 2-5 years of relevant work experience in a technical role.
  • Effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to learn complex manufacturing process flows and equipment systems.
  • Strong decision-making and prioritization skills based on data analysis.
  • Inquisitive problem-solving skills with a focus on data.
  • High individual initiative, self-management, and emotional intelligence.
  • General technical curiosity and capacity to learn complex manufacturing processes.
  • Project management experience is ideal.
  • Ability to understand tasks, tools, and resources required for complex jobs and improve job efficiency.
  • People management abilities to effectively lead technical teams.
  • Capable of prioritizing and shifting priorities as required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent changes in priorities.
  • Identify and resolve potential future problems before they impact production.
  • Strong team player, engaging effectively with employees at all levels.
