About the position

The Manufacturing Excellence Engineer will play a crucial role in driving continuous improvement and transformation at a key manufacturing site in Brea, CA. This position involves overseeing operational improvement workstreams, coaching teams, and implementing Lean methodologies to enhance manufacturing efficiency across multiple sites in North America. The role requires collaboration with various functions and stakeholders to promote a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Drive continuous improvement and site transformation as part of a transformation team within the Industrial business unit.
  • Develop workstream charters, detailed work plans, and identify operational and financial KPIs for improvement actions.
  • Review and assess operational data to implement action plans for closing performance gaps.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and waste reduction through data analysis and field observations.
  • Implement Lean standard tools and concepts such as Flow, Standard Work, 5S, Visual Management, SMED, Poka-Yoke, PDCA, and TPM.
  • Recommend methods for improving worker efficiency and reorganizing workflows.
  • Coach shop floor personnel in new operational methodologies.
  • Provide updates to stakeholders on workstream progress and escalate risks and issues as necessary.
  • Support the codification of new approaches and methodologies developed during the role.
  • Lead and participate in Kaizen events and Gemba processes to address complex manufacturing challenges.
  • Prepare formal cost justifications for capital expenditures on equipment and technology.
  • Collaborate with IT and Operations on project requirements to meet launch deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering Discipline, preferably Industrial Engineering.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing work experience within manufacturing operations.
  • 2+ years of experience in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization to build consensus and drive decision-making across functions.
  • Prior operational consulting experience is desirable.
  • Strong sense of urgency, accountability, and personal commitment.
  • Understanding of business metrics and P&L management.
  • Proficient in root cause problem-solving methodologies (5 Whys, Fishbone, 6 Sigma, Toyota Kata).
  • Knowledge of ERP/MES and manufacturing systems (JDE, SAP, LX).
  • Familiarity with basic data analytic tools (PowerBI, Qlikview, Tableau, Grafana).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Teams).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
