About the position

As The IT Director of Manufacturing Execution Systems and Quality at Abbott, you will play a pivotal role in leading the Global Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) deployment efforts and overseeing the MES support function across Abbott Nutrition. This position requires a strategic leader who can manage a diverse team, including managers and individual contributors, while facilitating effective communication between the business and IT sectors. Your leadership will be crucial in influencing the direction of the domain, and you will be responsible for coaching and mentoring your team to foster a high-performance culture. In this role, you will plan, develop, and direct the operation of information technology systems, ensuring that they align with the organization's goals. You will coordinate investigations, feasibility studies, and surveys of both proposed and existing information systems and machine applications. Your expertise will guide the selection, installation, and utilization of computing equipment and software, while you maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies and programming techniques. You will also participate in training key management personnel in data processing techniques, set policies and procedures, and control budgets. Your responsibilities will include managing communication and negotiations with suppliers to secure the necessary solution designs and project costs. Additionally, you will oversee maintenance work and quality control to ensure the efficient operation of the IT function, structure your organization to align with current and future strategies, and evaluate performance against defined metrics to implement necessary process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and direct the operation of information technology systems.
  • Plan and coordinate all investigations, feasibility studies and surveys of proposed and existing information systems and machine applications.
  • Guide the selection, installation and use of computing equipment and software.
  • Maintain current knowledge of equipment, systems and programming techniques appropriate to the organization.
  • Participate in the training of key management with data processing techniques.
  • Set policies, procedures, technical standards, methods, and priorities.
  • Control and recommend budgets.
  • Manage communication and negotiation with suppliers to obtain required solution design and sizing.
  • Review and approve infrastructure and software related project costs.
  • Direct maintenance work and quality control to ensure the efficient and timely operation of the information technology function.
  • Identify and structure the organization to align with current and anticipated future strategy of the domain.
  • Control the selection, development and training of information technology professionals and other staff and monitor their performance.
  • Evaluate performance of the organization against defined metrics and implement process improvements as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or similar field.
  • Experience leading projects within the Manufacturing Execution System Domain.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing terminology and common metrics used across operations and supply chain.
  • Demonstrated experience working with onshore and offshore technology teams in support of global program deployments.
