About the position

The Manufacturing Material Support Representative (Contractor) is responsible for coordinating and directing various strategic processes and customer satisfaction projects related to steel and raw material quality in a manufacturing environment. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction, serving as the material product expert at customer locations. The representative will lead problem-solving efforts for product non-conformance and maintain effective communication with both customers and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and direct customer satisfaction projects regarding steel/raw material quality.
  • Serve as the material product expert at customer locations, addressing questions and concerns.
  • Lead problem-solving methodologies for product non-conformance, identifying root causes and coordinating corrective actions.
  • Drive communication with internal customers throughout the manufacturing process to set expectations and establish timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and wear required PPE in the plant facility.
  • Manage resources by coordinating with internal teams and external vendors for project needs.
  • Track and communicate project progress, maintaining an internal tracking sheet and distributing updates weekly.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in manufacturing/quality.
  • Prior experience in steel making, coatings, processing, and awareness of steel imperfections affecting end-use quality.
  • Press and Diemaker experience.
  • Advanced skills in time management and task prioritization.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for process improvement through data analysis.
  • Strong relationship-building skills and ability to work well in a team setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong computer knowledge, particularly in Excel and menu-driven programs.
  • Detail-oriented with on-call availability to assist in problem resolution.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with carbon steel automotive applications and imperfections.
  • Experience with coated steels such as hot-dipped galvanized and galvanneal.
  • Knowledge of exposed vs. unexposed material.
  • Understanding of how material quality issues disrupt automotive stamping operations.
  • Familiarity with circle grid analysis, thickness analysis, and stamping problem-solving tools (8D, A3, DMAIC).
