About the position

Leidos is seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer specializing in Conformal Coating to join a diverse team focused on creating innovative solutions for complex engineering challenges. This role involves the application of conformal coating processes, both automated and manual, on printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and subassemblies, with a strong emphasis on improving cost-effectiveness and product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Apply conformal coating utilizing automated or manual dispensing methods.
  • Design and implement coatings on PCBAs or subassemblies using automated machines and manual processes.
  • Conduct trials and experiments to support customer requirements, engineering, production, and R&D activities.
  • Develop and recommend new processes to enhance cost-effectiveness and product quality.
  • Create and set operating equipment specifications.
  • Assist manufacturing operations in problem-solving related to equipment and systems.
  • Document and execute manufacturing processes and procedures for coating and dispensing systems.
  • Create, maintain, and develop preventative maintenance and calibration procedures for new equipment.

Requirements

  • BS degree in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited university with 4 years of experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience in conformal coating processes and equipment, particularly with Asymtek, PVA, SCS, and automated coating machines.
  • Ability to provide Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) estimates and Basis of Estimate (BOE) documents.
  • Familiarity with Costpoint Material Planning software and Agile product lifecycle management software is a plus.
  • Experience in various quality roles and using Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) is also a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  • Experience collaborating with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, and technicians to develop build strategies.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience on programs designing and building electronic hardware to government specifications.
  • Experience with software that maintains bills of materials and engineering design data.
  • Familiarity with electronics used on launch vehicles, targets, or missile components, and production of cable harnesses and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Current or prior certification to IPC/WHMA-A-610 & J-STD-001.
