About the position

As a Manufacturing Process Engineer at Apple, you will play a crucial role in the development and ramp-up of next-generation Apple products. This position is highly visible and offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the manufacturing processes that shape Apple’s innovative products. You will be responsible for reviewing and providing feedback on the design and intent of components and assemblies, ensuring that manufacturing practices are set to meet the high standards expected at Apple. Your role will involve partnering with both internal and external cross-functional teams to evaluate designs and processes during the concept phase, setting clear expectations for manufacturing processes that align with Apple’s commitment to quality and efficiency. In this position, you will develop new and improved processes for parts and assemblies, applying both theoretical knowledge and practical engineering skills. You will drive corrective actions across teams, ensuring that any issues are addressed promptly and effectively. Your responsibilities will also include designing experiments to validate manufacturing processes or design iterations, ensuring that new products are mechanically manufacturable from the outset. You will be tasked with presenting technical issues and updates to Apple’s management team and cross-functional teams regularly, providing creative solutions to engineering challenges related to the assembly process. This role may require international travel to supplier sites, with travel expectations of up to 30%. Your contributions will not only enhance the manufacturing capabilities at Apple but will also leave a lasting footprint on the products that millions of customers use every day.

Responsibilities

  • Review and provide feedback on design/design intent of components and assemblies.
  • Set standard manufacturing practices and determine impact to design and parameters to the final product.
  • Partner with internal and external cross-functional teams to evaluate design and processes at the concept phase.
  • Develop new and/or improved processes for parts and assemblies through theoretical and practical engineering.
  • Drive corrective actions cross-functionally with internal and external team members.
  • Drive design experiments to prove out manufacturing processes or design iterations.
  • Provide early and ongoing manufacturing involvement to ensure new products are mechanically manufacturable.
  • Design and develop technically complex processes to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Present technical issues and updates to Apple management team and cross-functional team on a frequent basis.
  • Provide creative solutions for engineering challenges or issues related to assembly process.
  • Travel internationally to supplier sites, up to 30%.

Requirements

  • BS in mechanical, materials, or chemical engineering (MS preferred).
  • Creative problem-solving experience.
  • Experience in process development/bring up and qualification.
  • Program/project management experience.
  • Manufacturing or supplier management experience.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and Engineering Drawing Interpretation.
  • Design of Experiments, statistical process control methods and theory.
  • Good command of Excel and JMP.
  • Knowledge of Metrology design and Optical/Contact Measurement Equipment is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; Mandarin or Korean language skills are a plus but not required.
  • Strong team player.
